Edward Maceda running for councilor in Sampaloc

MANAY ICHU VERA PEREZ hosted lunch for her youngest son, Edward Maceda, who's running for reelection as councilor in Sampaloc, Manila's 4th district, and for Joey de Venecia, stepson of her sister Manay Gina, who's running as senator. Edward is her only single son. Her daughters in law, Rica (wife of Ernest) and Annie (wife or Erwin), were present and we ask them how Manay Ichu is as a mother in law. "Ay, the best!" they chorus. "We have no in law problems."

Which is why Edward's future bride will be lucky. Edward was once linked to Francine Prieto. It's said he used to send her food on the set of "Bubble Gang". "That's true," he says. "We became good friends when she joined my motorcade in 2007. But we lost touch. When her mom died, I sent flowers to condole with them."

He's dating someone now and he's happy with her but he can't say if this will lead to the altar. "Busy muna ko sa campaign ko for reelection."

Edward was Manila's youngest councilor at 24 when he first won in 1995. He was elected for two more terms then he rested for one term and ran again in 2007, He won by landslide. As a councilor, he focused on education and helped in the construction and repair of various schoolhouses, including that of Antonio Maceda Integrated School named after his fraternal grandpa. He also authored the ordinance giving free movies to old folks in 2007 and co-authored the creation of a new hospital, Jose Abad Santos, in Binondo. A member of the Kundirana during his days in La Salle, his singing talent always comes in handy when his constituents make him sing. He took up journalism in UP and law at the Ateneo, passing the bar when he was already a councilor.
