EVELYN VARGAS started with PETA then did many movies with Regal, Viva and Seiko in the 80s. In 1994, she made a shortfilm for Mowelfund about incest starring Grace Amilbangsa. "It was invited sa Hawaii International Filmfest and it was there where I met Marshall Knaebel, who's the festival director of the Fribourg International Filmfest in Switzerland," she says. "Nabighani siya sa beauty ko and he married me so I'm now based there. I've organized a Filipino filmfest in Geneva and I attend the Cannes filmfest to support Filipino directors whose works get shown there, like Lav Diaz and Dante Mendoza."
She has a love child then who's now 30 years old and married to a Frenchman who's half-French, half-Japanese. "They have two daughters, aged 5 and 3, at ang gaganda ng mga apo ko. Mana sa lola nila."
Director Adolf Alix Jr. got her to play the role of a clairvoyant wardrobe mistress in "D'Survivors". "Muntik na nga akong palitan sa casting kasi ayaw akong payagan ng husband kong umuwi sa Pilipinas. Buti umabot pa ako. I enjoyed working with the Brapanese actors Daniel Matsunaga, Akihiro Sato and Fabio Ide. Local actors daw complain kasi pinasok tayo ng foreigners. Ganun talaga when you go global. Di pakita na lang nilang mas magaling sila."
Asst. Director Armand Reyes says they shot "D'Survivors" in Caramoan Islands. "Six days kami roon then we had to leave kasi magte-taping na yung 'Survivor Israel'. Kaya tinuloy na lang ang shoot sa Nasugbu. Bukod dito, tapos na rin namin ni Direk Adolf ang 'Presa', about women prisoners starring Anita Linda, Rosanna Roces and Jodi Sta. Maria."
