Lourdes Pimentel, steals the limelight from daughter Gwen

THE WIFE of Sen. Nene Pimentel, Mrs. Lourdes Bing Pimentel, stole the limelight from her daughter Gwen at the later's merienda presenting her to the press. Mrs. Pimentel said she never helped her son Koko when he ran in the last election. "Baka sabihin pa, mama's boy, e macho yun, he can take care of himself," she says. "E, si Gwen, as my daughter, may connection talaga kami."

A songwriter, she gave away CD's of her two albums, "Buhay Awit, Songs of Bing Pimentel" and "Pag-ibig sa Bayan". Gwen finished International studies at Ateneo then got a law degree and a masters in public ad from UP. A career public servant, she's her dad's chief of staff in the senate for 12 years, running his day-to-day affairs in office. She's proud of her dad's accomplishment in setting up local autonomy for local government units with the code he authord in 1991. She now wants to update the said code with proposed 170 amendments to further empower local government, including the barangays. She'll also continue her dad's fight for a federal system for which a constitutional assembly is needed as this will be the key to countrside development. She also wants to fight election cheating, pointing to Maguindanao as an example where elections are marred by cheating and violence. She believes automating the pools will not necessarily ensure clean and honest election results.

Being a mother of two, she also gives important to the promotion of children's health, education, safety and well being as the key to nationbuilding. If you'd vote for Gwen, she's number 44 in the ballot.
