News 5 to change the way news is delivered

THE NEWS & PUBLIC Affairs landscape will forever be changed with News 5, the news department of TV 5 headed by ace broadcaster Luchi Cruz Valdes, with "Higit sa Balita, Aksyon!" as their slogan. Their nightly newscast anchored by Paolo Bediones and Cheryl Cosim will be aired Monday to Friday at 9 PM, titled "Aksyon" as it'll not only deliver the news but provide solutions to problems the public experiences. "Aksyon Weekend" will be anchored by Cheri Mercado and Jove Francisco. "When there's a fire, we just won't cover it, we'll try to bring the firemen with us," says Luchi. "When there's an accident, we get an ambulance to help the victims right away. Aksyon agad."

After "Aksyon", a different kind of public affair show follow each night at 9:30. On Monday, it's "Totoo TV", hosted by the comic duo of Ariel and Maverick, a public service magazine show that aims to inform and educate but told with humor. Tuesday, it's "Timbangan" with economist Winnie Monsod putting the promises of candidates and officials on a weighing scale against their actual track records. This is a joint project with Monsod's Movement for Good Government. Wednesday, it's "Dokumentado" hosted by Luchi herself, showing news sources captured ambush style by News5's young firebrand journalists with their mini-cameras. Thursday, "Ako Mismo" with Chris Tiu tells stories of heroism by ordinary Pinoys to inspire today's generation who are looking for inspiration in a time of chaos and confusion. Friday, "Lupet!" with Lourd de Veyra retelling the best and biggest budgeted documentaries on TV this time in Pilipino.

News5 also offers its own morning show, "Sapul!", a hardhitting, no-holds-barred, no sacred cows of news and commentary program that will bring down erring government officials to their knees, as hosted by Erwin Tulfo, Martin Andanar, Lour de Veyra and Uno editor and model Shawn Yao, 5:30 to 7 AM, Monday to Friday.
