Rustica Carpio gives powerful performance in "Lola"

RUSTICA CARPIO tops our list of best actresses last year for her tour de force portrayal as a determined grandmother who'll do anything and everything to help free her erring grandson from jail in Dante Mendoza's "Lola". She already won the best actress award in the Las Palmas International Filmfest in Spain for her performance. In appreciation of the many positive things we've written about her acting, Ms. Carpio sent us a book at the People's Journal office that she herself wrote.

It's actually an autobiography, "Shuttling through Stage and Screen", a chronicle of her checkered life as a singer in Korea during the Korean War, as an academician in FEU and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and as a stage and film actress who has worked with the best directors like the late Ishmael Bernal, Lamberto Avellana, and Lino Brocka. SHe has also worked with Marilou Abaya, Maryo de los Reyes, Danny Zialcita, and the late Pablo Santiago, Rico Mambo and Joey Gosiengfiao. It's been a colorful career and she also writes about her co-stars from Amalia Fuentes and Alma Moreno to Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor. Published by FEU Publications, all movie buffs should get a copy of this very interesting book.
