GMA-7 IS LAUNCHING several new shows. The afternoon soaps "Gumapang Ka sa Lusak" and "Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita" are ending soon and will be replaced by similar remakes of old films, "Bakit Kay Tagal ng Sandali" with Maxene Magalona, Mike Tan and Pauleen Luna, and "Basahang Ginto" with Carla Abellana and Geoff Eigenmann. "First Time" is ending on the 6 PM slot and replacing it is "Langit sa Piling Mo" with Heart Evangelista, Mark Herras and JC Tiuseco. After "24 Oras", "Panday Kids" is also about to end and taking its place is "Pilyang Kerubin" with Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza. On Sunday after "Party Pilipinas", the afternoon anthology "Dear Friend" is saying goodbye and taking over is "Love Bug", love stories happening in a cruise ship and set in various countries. The 4-part pilot episode starts in Hongkong with Dennis Trillo and Carla Abellana. Hope "Love Bug" becomes a more successful voyage than "Italy", a movie made by GMA set in a cruise ship that didn't do well at the tills. It also starred Dennis.

TWO PARENTS of GMA stars are acting like an overprotective stage dad and mom. At the GMA Artist Center presscon for Iza Calzado, her dad Lito complained about Iza not having a regular show as she's just a guest in "Panday Kids" and in "Pinoy Records", although she hosts a cooking show, "Healthy Cravings". This prompted Iza to quip: "Sana, hindi ko na lang inimbita ang dad ko rito."
Pia Magalona is similarly protective of daughter Maxene. She admits they didn't like her being paired with JC Tiuseco all the time as it'd be better for her not to be identified with a love team. When Maxene, who's with Ampalaya Anonymous, got embroiled in a tiff with Pauleen Luna, Pia came quick to her defense, asking why people try to put Maxene in a bad light that will make her new show, "Bakit Kay Tagal ng Sandali", start on the wrong foot.
Will their being stage parents help forward their children's career? Let's wait and see.

TV5 IS also developing its own stable of stars. Playing Oyo Sotto's leading lady in "Midnight DJ" is a pretty newcomer, Lucia Cristobal, who stands 5'6". Born on August 28, 1986, she's the youngest of 4 kids and had already finished business management at St. Benilde. "Noon pa ko kinukuha to join showbiz but my parents told me to finish my studies first," she says. "I've done music videos and several TV commercials, the latest is Garniere. I'm now managed by Viva and they're the ones who told me to take the audition for 'Midnight DJ'."
How is it working with Oyo? "He's a gentleman, mabait sa lahat."
Her family is due to migrate to the U.S. soon. "But I enjoy acting so much so gusto ko magpaiwan dito."

PLAYING IMPORTANT roles in "Midnight DJ" are Desiree del Valle and Jenny Miller. "I play Andrea, boss ni Oyo as DJ, at boss ko naman si Jenny," says Des. She's still with ABS Star Magic. "I just did 'May Bukas Pa' with them, but I'm glad they allowed me to also appear sa TV5. Sa GMA lang bawal."
She was introduced in "Tabing Ilog" in 1999 and the most successful member of their cast is John Lloyd Cruz. "But I'm glad kaming tatlong babae are still around. Jodi Sta. Maria and Kaye Abad are still doing teleseryes for ABS. But two other guys, Paolo Contis and Patrick Garcia, are now with GMA-7."
We just talked to Vhong Navarro and he said Des is his longest relationship ever. "Ganun din naman siya sa'kin. Umabot kami ng three years and I become close to his two sons. I miss the boys nga, pero no communication na lang kasi may bago na siyang girlfriend, non-showbiz. Same with me. Mine used to be my classmate in high school sa San Agustin. We met again through Facebook."
As for Jenny, she also has a non-showbiz boyfriend, a Fil-Am businessman who's asking her to settle down. "Two years na kami and he's the reason why I don't accept sexy roles anymore. We're now planning our wedding at gusto ko, simple lang, but I want all the people close to me be there, both showbiz and non-showbiz. Kinausap ko nang maging ninang sina Manay Lolit Solis and Ms. Wilma Galvante. Ninong naman si Mr. Manny Pangilinan ng TV5 kasi friend siya ng boyfriend ko."

THREE TEEN housemates were evicted from PBB Clash of 2010 last Saturday. First was the Cantonese April Sun, the first teenternational to be ousted, who got a low 23.33% of text votes compared to the two other nominees, the pimply Carson (24.13) and Ann (52.54%.) Among the local housemates, four were nominated: Tricia, Angelo, Jovic and Yong. Jovic and Yong got only 8.54% and 11.57% of text votes so the two of them had to leave Kuya's house.
There were several visitors in Kuya's house. Empress Schuck came to the teenternational house in character as Rosa, the ugly hunchback she plays in her launching show, "Rosalka". At the local housemates, their guests were Maja Salvador and Melai Cantiveros who came to promote their new show, "Impostor". They came in disguise but the housemates were clever enough to guess their real identities.

THE LAST "Take Me Out" dating couple we interviewed were Paulo Jordan and Catherine Desingano. Paulo is a balikbayan from California. "I was born in Manila but my dad got assigned to several countries so we lived mostly in Singapore, Japan and the U.S.," he says. He's 23, stands 5'11" and very buff. "I did modeling for Abercrombie in the U.S. but I was fired because I was helping out a friend and they thought I was unprofessional." Why did he pick Cat? "She's very sweet and I like her being family-oriented, just like me."
A part time print and TV ads model, Cat is 22 and just finished nursing and caregiving at the Manila Doctors. She was just on her second day in the show when Paulo chose her. For their date, they had dinner at a classy resto. So how did she find him? "He's very much a gentleman and he talks well," she says. Will their relationship turn serious later? "Di natin masasabi kung may ibang pupuntahan ito," she says.
"We hang out now and we'll just keep our options open," says Paulo. "Take Me Out" is seen twice Monday to Friday, at 5:30 PM and 12:30 MN.
