CONGRATS to Richard Gutierrez for winning the bronze medal at the 2010 New York Film and TV Festivals for his docu special with GMA News and Public Affairs, "Planet Philippines". It was nominated in the Environment and Ecology category. It shows the beautiful biodiversity of Philippine marine and wildlife and offers suggestions on how can we all help take good care of our environment. Chard left Manila Sunday via California and passed by his dad Eddie Gutierrez who's currently on vacation at their condo in Los Angeles. He got to New York Monday morning and he rested first at his hotel at Times Square. The awards night was held that same night, 7 PM, at the American Airlines Theatre in Manhattan.
"The nomination is already an honor considering we're one of 30 countries which sent entries in the same category," he says. "When it was announced that we won the bronze medal, biglang nawala ang pagod at jetlag ko. I and my colleagues at GMA News and Public Affairs, headed by producer Ella Martelino, really felt so proud. Planet Philippines is indeed a labor of love for nature and a celebration of wisdom for future generations. The award inspires us now to make more docus about environmental awareness and protection."
Richard was a head turner in his elegant barong tagalog that made him unique since most of those who attended were in their suits. From the reception to the actual affair, everyone was asking what he's wearing. He explained that it's what most Filipino males usually wear in formal and important occasions. He got a lot of compliments and he said thank you to everyone. He was interviewed later and the pictures and interview can be seen at the NY Festival website, www.newyorkfestivals.com. The Planet Philippines group later went out on their own to celebrate. The following day, Chard had a meet and greet with his Pinoy fans for GMA TV at Renee's Kitchenette in Queens.
