Cogie Domingo takes on mature roles

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

AT 24, COGIE Domingo is no longer the teen actor in "Deathrow" and "Cool Dudes" so he's now ready to accept mature daring roles like his role as a bisexual lawyer who's married to a woman but carries on an affair with a gay teacher, Sid Lucero, in "Muli". He'd be doing love scenes with Sid. What are his limitations?

"None," he says. "What the script would require, I'm willing to do it."

He says he is a new man so he refuses to answer past issues that hounded him, like his being involved with the estranged wife of Gov. Chavit Singson. "Matagal na yun, wala nang problema. Lahat ng kinasangkutan kong gulo, ayoko ng pag-usapan yan as there's no use talking about it. I want to dwell on the present. Nagpapasalamat lang akong puede pa rin pala akong bumalik sa showbiz. I promise to do give my best. Mas seryoso ako ngayon."

What about his rumored bout with drugs before? "Lumang issue na rin yan pati pagiging lagi kong late noon. Let's move on. Basta excited na ko to work again with my new manager, Noel Ferrer. Naisama rin niya ako sa new comedy ni Eugene Domingo sa TV 5, 'Inday Wanda', so sana, tuloy-tuloy na ito."

He just returned but intrigues are already hounding him. First, he admitted that he and Angel Locsin were on briefly and Angel even stayed in their home in the States on her way to London two years to study fashion. Angel now denies this. Second, the Royal Bellagio Hotel is said to complain that he destroyed some of their property when he stayed in their hotel recently. Cogie says if this were true, how come they allowed him to check out? "Di sana hindi nila kami pinaalis doon."

ROBIN PADILLA is truly a crowd drawer. His participation in the Philippine Fashion Week with the fashion show of Jag Jeans drew a record crowd at the SM MOA Atrium last Saturday night. Jag is really very happy with the warm reception to their chief endorser. The people went wild with shrieks when Binoy appeared on the ramp with kids Kylie and Ali, who obviously enjoyed the limelight. Ali is a practical carbon copy of his dad, even in the way he moves, as his dad is really his idol. Kylie is so pretty and Binoy admits he's scared that suitors will hound her. He's also apprehensive that Ali wants to be an action star. "Nang tumalon ako, gusto, tumalon din siya," he says. "Gusto talaga nag-showbiz. Excited talaga sila ni Kylie mag-fashion show."

How's his experience as a ramp model? "Mas kinabahan ako dito kaysa sa action scenes na ginagawa. Kumabog talaga ang dibdib ko. Parang nahiya ako. Buti't positive ang reaction."

He says he's now good friends with Sydney-based ex-wife Liezl and their kids can go back and forth with them anytime. Is it true he's also extra close to Mariel Rodriguez after he hosted "Wowowee" for two weeks? "Dalawa silang ka-close ko roon ni Pokwang, hindi si Mariel lang. I heard nga na wala na sila nung boyfriend niya (Zanjoe Marudo) pero wala akong kinalaman dun. Hinihintay ko pa kung ano ang sasabihin ng puso ko. Basta gusto ko ang naging pag-aalaga sa'kin ni Mariel noong magkasama kami."

BARBIE FORTEZA appeared in the presscon of "Pilyang Kerubin" like an angel flying from above, aided by harness. But she's not the real angel in the story of this new telefantasya. She plays an ordinary girl, Charity. The real angel is 7-year old Alliyah Fatima who plays Angelica, a playful "kerubin" in heaven who naughtily opens the pearly gates there and let's in many souls from purgatory. Because of this mischievous act, she is punished by Janno Gibbs as St. Peter and sent to earth to do good in the lives of mortals. She gets to possess the body of Charity, the daughter of Angelika de la Cruz who's taken away from her by Paolo Contis and raised by Lotlot de Leon. Will "Pilyang Kerubin" be the show to topple the high ratings now "Agua Bendita" on ABS?

"Ay, wala po akong iniisip na ganun," says Barbie. "Basta thankful ako na nabigyan ako ng GMA-7 ng ganito kagandang show. May scenes dito na kinunan pa namin on location in Batanes to please the viewers. Ibang-iba naman ang story and treatment nito kaysa sa 'First Time'."

Her two leading men are Joshua Dionisio as Jacob, a good and bright boy, and Elmo Magalona, a sacristan but a trouble-maker and chickboy.

REGINE VELASQUEZ is still in the U.S. but the operation on the boy with a cleft lip and palate whose corrective surgery she's paying for has been successfully accomplished, as shown in "Showbiz Central". The boy is 7-year old Jason Abergido and Regine met him on the set of "Diva" while they were taping in Bulacan. The first phase of the operation that bridged his cleft upper lip has been successfully accomplished. The next phase will be six months from now when they repair his cleft palate. Jason was shown crying and so nervous before the operation but after only four days, he was sent home smiling as his upper lip was healing fast.

A photo of Jason has been sent to Regine in the U.S. and she's so happy to see him smiling after the operation. Meantime, in "Diva", Regine as Melody becomes a hit on the internet after someone posted her singing "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" on Youtube. Her friend Barang (Jaya) will hear her and she's sure that Melody ang the missing Sampaguita are one and the same.

FOUR TEENTERNATIONALS (Sophia Young, Jack Yoon, James Reid and Jenny Kim) and four Pinoy housemates (Angelo Pasco, Patrick Sugui, Tricia Santos and Joe Vargas) were nominated for eviction from PBB Teens last Saturday. In the text votes, James got 68.86% and Jenny got 14.59% so they were saved. Sophia got only 12.24% and Jack, 4.31%, so they were ousted. Among the locals, Tricia once again got the highest votes with 53.28% while Angelo got 23.7%. Patrick got only 17.33% and Joe, 5.60%, so they had to leave Kuya's house. Only 10 housemates remain.

The past week was really an exciting one for all the housemates. The Teenternationals won two more challenges so the Pinoys asked for a rematch. Kuya agreed and they did the Domino challenge where each player sat on a chair made of dominoes. Each time the dominoes fall off, they're supposed to rearrange them as quickly as possible. The Pinoys won this time. All the housemates were then taught the martial arts called Wushu, with two Wushu masters teaching them. It's a difficult task but they all got Kuya's approval in the end. As a prize, Kuya gave them free haircut and facials courtesy of Dr. Vicki Belo.

This coming Saturday, the nominees are housemates who are quite popular with viewers: Tricia, Bret, Devon and Jenny. PBB starts a new voting system for them, Vote to Save (to save their personal faves), Vote to Evict (to oust those they want to leave Kuya's house.) For “vote to save”, just text BBS(space) name of housemate. For "vote to evict". text BBE(space) name of housemate. Send to 2331 for Globe, Sun Cellular, TM and Bayan Wireless subscribers, and 231 for Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers. The housemates are also staging a concert with Jhong Hilario, Sweet Plantado of the Company and musical director Mel Villena as their guests.
