JC de Vera wants to forget all memories about Rhian

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

RHIAN RAMOS says she's not peeved even if JC De Vera compared her to an eraser as he wants to forget all memories of their past relationship. "As for me, I'd never erase him as I have good memories of him and I learned a lot from him," she says. "We were never formally on kasi early on, I realized hindi puedeng maging kami. It won't be functional. Nagtataka nga ako at ngayon lang biglang napag-usapan ito kung totoong naging on kami. "

How come JC sounds so bitter? "I don't know. I guess it's how you handle a situation. If that's his way of handling what he perceived na nangyari before, it's up to him. Basta kung galit siya sa'kin, ako, hindi galit sa kanya at ayokong magalit. Basta I want to thank him kasi nag-enjoy naman ako working with him before in 'La Lola'."

Rhian is the special guest in "Take Me Out" this Friday. Did she ask the permission of rumored BF DJ Mo before seeking a date in the dating game show? "No need. Hindi kami on. Wala akong BF kaya walang sinumang magagalit kung maghanap man ako ng ka-date."

BASIL VALDEZ survived three major surgeries. "First was on the epiglottis on my throat, then on my spine and pelvic bone kasi may tumor. Last was my kidney kasi may nakitang mass but when they opened me up, parang miracle, hindi na nila makita."

A friend then discovered that he has the gift for healing. "The Jesuits guided me but it's a big responsibility. Patients will various illnesses will come to the house and sometimes, three hours akong nakikinig sa kanila. I don't charge naman, pinapakain ko pa. It became too stressful for me, hindi na ako makapag-perform, kaya natakot ako and so I dropped it. Then a woman I met told me, 'Won't you go return to singing as it's your songs that help heal the sick? I did inspirational songs like 'Lift Up Your Hands' and 'SALMO, Sundin Ang Loob Mo', and people tell me that it helps heal them. And so I went back to singing. I want to record a new album with me interpreting songs of today's top bands like Sugarfree, Itchyworms, Side A, and Hale. Kasi di ba uso ang bands remaking songs like that of APO. Ako naman, I want to remake their hit songs."

He's excited to perform with Verni Varga, The Company, Gino Padilla and Charlie Green in Viva Concerts' "OPM Through the Years" on July 17, Saturday, at the SMX Mall of Asia. "It's a tribute to Pinoy artistry in song and the local classics we have. I'll be singing my own hits like 'Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan', 'Ngayon at Kailanman', 'Kastilyong Buhangin', and many more. So don't miss it."

"OPM Through the Years" promises to be a great show with delightful OPM tunes. Tickets are now available at P2750 for gold, P2000 for silver, P1000 for bronze.

DO YOU think has the bigger stable of actors and actresses: ABS or GMA-7. Let's make a countdown and see if this were true. Let's start with the actresses of ABS.

Here are their actresses who can do lead roles: Bea Alonzo, Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, Anne Curtis, KC Concepcion, Kim Chiu, Kristine Hermosa, Toni Gonzaga, and Cristine Reyes. Those who've been given lead roles but seem to be on a lower rank are Maja Salvador, Bangs Garcia, Erich Gonzales, Shaina Magdayao, Melissa Ricks, Andi Eigenmann, and Empress Schuck. Those who do hosting more are Valerie Concepcion, Mariel Rodriguez, Nikki Gil and Bianca Gonzales. Among their promising newcomers are Sam Pinto, Queenie Padilla, Isabelle Abiera, and Jessy Mendiola. In the major support category are Karylle, Megan Young and Maricar Reyes. Among the senior stars are Sharon Cuneta, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gretchen Barretto, and Kris Aquino, plus comedians Ai Ai de las Alas, Pokwang and newcomer Melai Cantiveros who we hope won't be just a flash in the pan.

Over at GMA-7, their lead stars are Marian Rivera (who wouldn't have been a lead star if Angel Locsin didn't move to ABS), Rhian Ramos, Regine Velasquez (the most senior at 40), Iza Calzado, Jennylyn Mercado, Carla Abellana and the newly transferred Claudine Barretto (whose own series is rating less than what's desired). On a lower rank are Kris Bernal, Maxene Magalona, Jackie Rice, Lovi Poe and Jennica Garcia. Currently out of circulation are Yasmien Kurdi and Sunshine Dizon. Former leads who now do support roles are Jolina Magdangal (support in "Panday Kids"), Rufa Mae Quinto (support in "Darna" and "Diva") and Angelika de la Cruz (support in "Pilyang Kerubin"). GMA has a lot of female villains: Katrina Halili, Bianca King, Iwa Moto, Pauleen Luna, Nadine Samonte, Glaiza de Castro, Arci Munoz, and Ehra and Michelle Madrigal. They also have a hit pre-teener, Barbie Forteza and a lead comedian, Eugene Domingo. Playing support roles are Ryza Cenon, Vaness del Moral and Chariz Solomon. Hopefully, they can make big stars out of Starstruck V winners Sarah Lahbati and Diva Montelaba and "Emir" star Frencheska Farr.

So who do you think has more impressive female star power between the two networks?

LET'S NOW LOOK at the actors. ABS has several lead actors. The top three now are John Lloyd Cruz (3 times Box Office King in a row and so in demand as an endorser), Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay, who have assignments one after another. Piolo Pascual is still in the running mainly because of his endorsements, but his last film "Love Me Again" was two years ago and his last TV series "Lovers in Paris" was last year yet. It's good he finally has a new show with Santino, "Noah". His former Hunk colleagues Diether Ocampo and Jericho Rosales are still around but their luster is no longer as luminous as before.

Among the younger actors, the busiest are Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca. Two actors who shone in the Agimat series are Coco Martin and Jolo Revilla. After them would be Zanjoe Marudo, Jason Abalos, Matteo Guidicelli, Enchong Dee, Ejay Falcon, Matt Evans, Sid Lucero, Rayver Cruz. Then there are the comedian-hosts: Vhong Navarro, Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford, and singers like Martin Nievera, Gary V, Erik Santos, Jed Madela and Christian Bautista. Their senior actors include Aga Muhlach, Robin Padilla, Gabby Concepcion, and Albert Martinez. One former lead actor who's now relegated to comedy roles is John Prats. Among their newcomers, the ones in "Gimik" seem promising: Lance Christopher and Franco Daza. Other would be heartthrobs are Giggerboys teens AJ Perez and Enrique Gil.

AT GMA-7, their top two actors are Richard Gutierrez and Dingdong Dantes, followed by Dennis Trillo, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Aljur Abrenica, and Geoff Eigenmann. Then they have recruits from ABS-CBN who now often do more support than lead roles: Alfred Vargas, Patrick Garcia, Paolo Contis (he can do drama, comedy and hosting with equal ease so we wonder why he's not given a lead role), Marvin Agustin and TJ Trinidad. Also doing lead roles every now and then are Jay-R, Mike Tan, Dion Ignacio and Polo Ravales (who does more villain roles now). Then there are the Japanese Brazilian recruits: Daniel Matsunaga (the most promising), Akihiro Sato and Fabio Ide. They also have their comedians: Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Michael V and Vic Sotto. Newcomers who show promise are Carl Guevarra, Starstruck V recruits Enzo Pineda and Rocco Nacino, and Survivor recruits JC Tiuseco and Marvin Kiefer. Their teen stars are Joshua Dionisio, Elmo Magalona, Jake Vargas and the new recruit from ABS-CBN, Kristoffer Martin whose dynamic screen presence sizzles as the young Dingdong in "Endless Love". Their most senior actor is Sen. Bong Revilla, who only do hosting jobs with them now. Too bad for GMA that one of their top bets, JC De Vera, moved to TV 5 and another one they're posed to elevate to stardom, Paolo Avelino, is now about to be an unwed dad. We also don't know why they don't utilize transferee Mark Bautista and their winner in "Are You the Next Big Star", Geoff Taylor. Waiting in the wings are male starlets Arthur Solinap, Victor Aliwalas and Marco Alcaraz. So who do you think has more powerful star wattage: the Kapuso or Kapamilya actors?
