Marian-Dingdong takes lie detector test

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

MARIAN RIVERA and Dingdong Dantes both took the lie detector test in Showbiz Central last Sunday that was a special Don't Lie to Me edition as Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe and Rochelle Pangilinan also took the test. Dong was the first to grill his GF. "When we started in 'Marimar', totoo bang wala kang pakialam sa akin?' Marian said yes and it's a lie. "Sasamahan mo ba ko sa gagawin natin sa December?" She said yes and it's true. Dong said they won't get married but will just take a vacation. Marian then grilled Dong. "Do you get jealous when I'm paired with other guys?" Dong said yes and it's true. "When we went to Spain, mamanhikan ka ba sana sa papa ko?" Dong said no and it's a lie.

In their hit film, "You to Me Are Everything", a comedy, Marian played a female faggot. She now returns to drama in "Endless Love". "Madaling gawin ang movie kasi masaya talaga kami noon. Now, hirap ako magdrama as I'm so happy with Dong kaya wala akong paghuhugutan ng sad emotions."

They were together for a month in the U.S. Has she discovered anything new in Dong? "Oo naman. Akala ko, kalog ako, pero nagulat ako kasi mas kalog at maingay siya sa'kin. The trip helped us to relax at maganda talaga ang naging bonding namin." Does she feel "Endless Love" for Dingdong? "Oo naman, at sana ganun din siya para sa'kin."

CLAUDINE BARRETTO is surprised her marriage to Raymart Santiago is rumored to be on the rocks. She allegedly dropped by the taping of "Diva" to visit ex-BF Mark Anthony Fernandez. "Gusto ko lang i-clear, nagpunta ko sa set ng 'Diva' not for him but for Direk Dominic Zapata," she says. "Yung location kasi nila, malapit sa taping ng show ko ('Claudine'). Before I went there, I called to make sure wala siya. Kasi alam ko nga, gagawaan ng issue. May binigay lang ako kay Direk Dom. Tapos nasulat pang nagtagal daw ako sa set nila as I waited for Mark. E, ni hindi nga ako bumaba ng kotse ko, no?"

So she and Raymart are okay? "Awa ng Diyos, oo. Wala kaming nagiging problema at all. So bakit gusto namang kami ngayon ang pag-awayin when we don't fight at all dahil napakabait ni Raymart? Alam ko gusto lagi may pinag-aaway o pinaghihiwalay sa showbiz. Spare us ng husband ko. Leave us in peace. We put God in the center of our relationship so we believe He blesses our marriage."

GMA-7 no doubt found a new teen idol in 16-year old Elmo Magalona. His performance with Ely Buendia of songs like "Higante" and "Bus Stop" in "Eat Bulaga" got so much positive feedback in the net. He now has his own legion of fans and, for sure, his presence in "Pilyang Kerubin" will help attract more viewers. He has overtaken even his own sister, Maxene, whose new show, "Trudis Liit", is in the afternoon slot while his show is in GMA Telebabad primetime block shown right after "24 Oras". Some of his followers say he's the Justin Bieber of the Philippines, the Canadian teen sensation. What's nice about Elmo is he can do rap and pop with equal ease. His version of Charice's "Pyramid" with Julie Ann in "Party Pilipinas" was very well applauded. In "Pilyang Kerubin", Elmo plays Aaron, a church sacristan who's actually a tough guy and trouble maker who becomes the rival of Michael (Joshua Dionisio) over Charity (Barbie Forteza). The son of Jonas (Paolo Contis), he doesn't get along well with Michael who lives with them. He escapes at night to hang around but it's Michael who is accused of doing this so Jonas puts up an electric fence in their home. Meantime, Lailani (Ina Feleo) becomes bitter after losing an eye in a shooting incident. In heaven, good and bad angels wage war against each other.

BASED ON THE 2001 chick flick about pink girl power that made Reese Witherspoon a box office star, "Legally Blonde" is a rousing musical featuring a bravura lead star performance from Nikki Gil as Elle Woods, the ditzy California sorority queen dumped by her boyfriend for not being serious enough who then proves she can excel on her own by going to Harvard law school in the name of love. Nikki acts, sings and dances so well like she's really born to perform in musical theater. Reese may have popularized the role in Hollywood but the smart Nikki makes it her own in a production that shows local theater at its best. She doesn't even look ridiculous as a blonde Asian. Nikki shines in so many numbers, including "Omigod" (the opening number), the show stopping "What You Want" when she gets to Harvard, and "So Much Better". We'd really love to see her doing Kim in "Miss Saigon".

Giving her superb support are the scene-stealing Jinky Llamanzares as Paulette her beautician friend, Guji Lorenzana as Warner her condescending boyfriend, Jett Pangan as the law professor who has his own designs for Elle (his "Blood in the Water" number is a high point of the show), Cris Villonco as Vivienne her rival who becomes an ally, and Geneva Cruz who does marvelous singing while dancing and doing workouts on stage as the murder suspect in her exuberant production number that opens the play's second act. We just wish she has more chemistry with Nyoy Volante who plays her leading man. Kudos to Director Chari Arespacochaga ("Footloose", "Spring Awakening") for the excellent staging of all the well choreographed musical numbers.
