JC De Vera, superstar of TV5

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

HOW DID JC de Vera feel when he said he wants to erase Rhian Ramos from his memory but she doesn’t want to do so as she wants to make a permanent marker of the beautiful time they spent together when they were paired in “La Lola”? “Wala akong masasabi,” he says. “Ayoko ng sagutin yan kasi we don’t have any communication anymore.”

He’s introduced as the Superstar of TV5 who’s in their wallpaper when they sign on and sign off. “Para akong kandilang natutunaw sa importance they give to me. It’s really a challenge for me to prove na di sila nagkamali sa’kin.”

Studio 5, the film arm of TV 5, wants to cast him in “Rosario” but his sked can’t allow him to do it. “Nag-start na sila and I don’t have any free time as I’m still finishing ‘Hating Kapatid’ with Judy Ann Santos, tapos my stint in ‘TV 5 Specials’ was extended due to the very positive feedback lalo na sa episode na magician vampire ako. After the last episode, ‘Gabriel Molave’, where I play an arnis expert, I will be doing a comedy with Empoy Marquez as my twin brother.”

Did he feel bad when he had only one scene in the trailer of “Hating Kapatid” compared to Luis Manzano who’s all over it? “No. Luis really has more scenes than me at mas marami siyang comedy. I have to be more serious as Juday’s leading man para mag-adjust yung edad namin sa story. I’m 24 and she’s 31 kaya dapat, on screen, hindi halata yun. I’m really just happy to be part of this film kasi puro sila taga-ABS, including Direk Wenn Deramas, ako lang ang naiba, pero panay ang plug ko rito sa shows ko on TV 5. Ngayon ko lang sila nakasama sa movie, although I was with Juday in ‘Ouija’ and with Sarah Geronimo when we’re both starting in ‘Click’. Naka-one month siya with us before she moved to ABS.”

How’s it working with Juday? “Nai-starstruck pa rin ako when we have a scene together. I can’t believe na yung pinapanood ko lang noong araw, kaeksena ko na ngayon. She’s really a great actress.”

KC Concepcion is understandably annoyed about stories that she visited Piolo Pascual in Subic, which Santino denies now saying it’s all hearsay on his part. She’s not in the cast of “Noah”, and yet she’s being constantly mentioned in its publicity. “She’s so busy with her daily show and ‘The Buzz’ and won’t have the time to go there kahit gustuhin niya,” says her manager Shirley Kuan. “Naiinis siya kung bakit siya pilit nili-link kay Piolo.”

We just notice that the promo of “Noah” is taking a turn for the worse. The interviews with Santino saying he doesn’t like Piolo to be his dad implies that Piolo is not at all warm to him during taping. This will surely not help the show to attract more viewers.

KEAN CIPRIANO, the Callalily vocalist who now acts in TV5’s Sunday rom com BFGF, is surprised at the rumor that he and Rachel Ann Go have broken up. “How can that be, e hindi naman naging kami,” he says. “I do admit we’re close friends, we hang out and try to write songs together kasi malapit lang ang bahay nila sa amin, but we’re not really on.”

So could it be true that his real squeeze is his BFGF leading lady, Alex Gonzaga? “Close friends din kami, nothing more. Nagugulat ako sa showbiz kasi kailangan, i-link ka talaga. Siempre, nagkikita kami lagi sa taping ng show namin so it’s not surprising na maging friends kami. I’m happy na siya ang ka-love team ko sa show, but hanggang dun lang yun.”

POKWANG IS understandably excited playing a lead role opposite Zanjoe Marudo in the “Puso” episode of Star Cinema’s horror film, “Cinco”. In the story, she is so in love with Zanjoe that she tries to win him using a love potion or gayuma, with disastrous results. The film is memorable for her as it requires her to do torrid kissing with Zanjoe. “Ilang ulit ko talaga tinanong si Direk Cathy Molina kung kailangan ba talaga yung laplapan sa eksena at sabi niya, sasapakin niya dahil ako pa ang nag-iinarte at hindi si Zanjoe,” she says. “E, kasi, barkada ko si Zanjoe sa ‘Banana Split’ kaya parang di katalo yan. Pero nang ginagawa na naming ang halikan, di ako pumikit, gusto ko Makita lahat ng nangyayari and I don’t wanna miss a thing. I think nasarapan naman siya sa’kin. Feeling niya, ako si Mariel (Rodriguez, Zanjoe’s ex who he reportedly dumped.)”

Someone asked why they still had to put on prosthetic makeup on Pokwang for her role in “Puso”, implying she’s already ugly anyway? “Hoy, ang ganda-ganda ko nga kaya na-insecure sa’kin pati yung mga foreign models sa Bench. Akala, inaagaw ko boyfriends nila at inaway-away ako. Ang haba nga ng hair ko, o. Kaya kailangang lagyan pa ko ng makeup sa ‘Puso’ kasi kundi mas maganda ako kay Bangs Garcia na siyang karibal ko kay Zanjoe.”

The other episodes in “Cinco” are “Braso” with AJ Perez, Sam Concepcion and Robi Domingo, “Mata” with Rayver Cruz and Maja Salvador, and “Paa” with Jodi Sta. Maria.

LOVI POE is one of today’s busiest stars. She has two entries in the ongoing Cinemalaya filmfest. She plays the young Gina Alajar, a student activist raped by the military, in Joel Lamangan’s “Sigwa” and a teenage girl who falls for a young man during the Mayohan festivities in Quezon province in “Mayohan”, the directorial debut of Dan Villegas that will have its screening tonight at the CCP, 9 pm. She’s also doing a horror film, “White House”, for Regal with Gabby Concepcion and Mo Twister. On TV, she’s in Party Pilipinas, Show Me Da Manny and will soon be taping Love Bug with Rocco Nacino.
