Zoren finally proposes to Carmina

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

WHY IS THE title of Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villaroel’s talk show that starts airing on August 9, “Love ni Mister, Love ni Misis”, when, after being together for 10 years, they’ve yet to be blessed by the holy sacrament of matrimony? “If you’d notice,” says Mina, “the title is not ‘Love Ko si Mr. or Mrs.’ because it does not refer to us. General yan. It can refer sa lahat.”

So why are not they married yet? “Hindi pa naman siya nagpo-propose,” she points to Zoren.

“I asked her if she wants us to be married sa aming pilot episode, ayaw niya,” says Zoren. He then kneels in front of Mina. “Honey, will you marry me? It’s been 10 years, let’s get married na.”

“Pepetik-petik ka kasi,” says Mina. “Sige, it’s about time.”

GMA-7 exec Wilma Galvante then tells them: “Sa first anniversary ng show nyo, ipakakasal naming kayo.”

What really caused the delay? “Ayoko naman kasi siya agad itali sa’kin,” says Zoren. “Kasi maaga siyang nagpatali noon. She was so young and it didn’t work out.” He’s referring to Mina’s previous marriage to Rustom Padilla. “Then our twins came, naging busy kami, at nalilimutan naming di pa pala kami kasal.”

They feel so blessed to have their own morning talk show. “Dati, dream lang namin ito, ngayon totoo na,” says Mina. “People think it’s a sitcom, parang ‘Kaya ni Mister’ nina Maricel Soriano before. They can’t believe Zoren will host a talk show. Hindi lang nila alam, Zoren is tsismoso rin, laging may opinion sa bawat issue. Our show will be anything goes, light and casual ang approach, like we have an episode about exes.”

“Our first guest is my ex, Ruffa (Gutierrez)”, says Zoren. “Maganda pa rin si Ruffa.”
“Mas maganda naman ang ex ko,” Mina quips.

“Yeah, I get it. Actually, hinahanap nga namin si BB (Gandanghari, Mina’s ex) to guest in the show but we couldn’t find her. No one knows kung nasaan siya.”

Would Mina be ready to face her now? What will be her first question to BB? “Huli ko siyang nakaharap, Rustom pa siya. E, patay na raw si Rustom so I don’t know what I’ll ask her. Ayokong pagplanuhan na parang scripted. Basta hihintayin ko na lang kapag nakaharap ko na siya.”

Their show delves into issues involving couples, from handling finances and in laws to rearing of children and renovating one’s home. We suggest they coordinate with the Center for Family Ministries at the Ateneo where they have expert resource persons on these matters. Since they’ve been on for 10 years, what have they discovered as each other’s most endearing quality?

“She makes me feel na parang binata pa rin ako. When I come home late, she doesn’t nag me o kinukulit kunsaan ako galling, sinong kasama ko. That’s because she trusts me. I earned that trust at wala akong balak sirain ang trust niyang yun.”

“More than anything else, God-fearing siya. When your God-fearing, kasama na roon ang pagiging loyal and faithful. As a husband and father, wala akong marereklamo. Uliran siya. He’s very hands on sa mga anak namin.”

WE SAW the singer simply known as Suy performing at the House of Runes and her very relaxing style can really put you at ease after a hard day’s work. She has released her own self-titled album, “Simply Suy”, with Ivory Music and many listeners who’ve heard her single, “Simple Lang”, played on the radio are wondering who the singer could be. Suy is from Davao and first joined the music scene as lead singer for the band Natural High. She was then did compilation albums for various recording companies and also backup vocals for some famous recording stars. Her big break came after she did the successful “Unplugged” compilation series for Ivory who then signed her up for an exclusive recording contract. “I couldn’t believe it when they offered me a contract,” she says. “I thought I was only dreaming, but I couldn’t be happier kasi dream ko talaga to have my own album.” Ivory Pres. Steven L. Tan says they truly believe in Suy’s talent. “She has her own style of interpreting songs that listeners will surely appreciate kasi it’s best for easy listening. If they enjoyed our Unplugged series without knowing who the singer is, we’re sure they’ll enjoy Suy more now that we have assembled several great songs for her in’Simply Suy’.”

Among the songs in her album are “Words Get in the Way”, “Later”, “Could’ve Been”, “Lucky” (duet with Paolo Santos) plous her own version of Lady Gaga songs that she interprets in her own unique way. “Simply Suy” is sponsored by Ian Felix Alquiros of The Room, Chery Nogara of Benefits Salon, Victoria Jackson, Sundari and Fused.

THE ROMANCE between Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez continues to sizzle with sightings of them watching movies together and dining out. ABS-CBN is obviously capitalizing on this as they will be the lead hosts of the new noontime variety show that will replace “Wowowee” starting this Saturday. Joining them as co-hosts are Kris Aquino, Pokwang and Valerie Concepcion. We heard they’re still debating what the best title for this new show would be. This means it’s true that ABS management didn’t give in to the demands of Willie Revillame to have Pokwang and Mariel yanked out of “Wowowee” when he returns. What they did is retain Pokwang and Mariel then dumped Willie.
