WONDER WHAT Mariel Rodriguez feels now that Robin Padilla has denied their wedding while former friend and PBB co-host Toni Gonzaga has denounced her in various interviews for betraying their friendship. Robin says “walang kasal na naganap” but the Ibaloi mamburong or priest who married them on Sept. 13 insists the ceremony is legal. When he asked Robin if he wanted a real wedding, Robin even said: “Oo. Kasal talaga.” After this, there was another wedding officiated by a Christian pastor. Since he’s an avowed Muslim, Robin was denounced by other Muslims for having an Ibaloi and a Christian wedding. Robin relented and insinuated that the wedding is just a part of a new sitcom he’d do for ABS, adding in an interview: “walang kasal na naganap.”
Obviously, we haven’t seen the end of this yet. But this all point to something about your marriage starting on the wrong foot. Nag-umpisa ng magulo. Despite this, we hope their marriage really lasts.
AS FOR TONI GONZAGA, she says she’s glad that she has finally admitted her rift with Mariel in public as she’s been harboring her “sama ng loob” since June. She won’t reveal the reason but we heard Mariel allegedly maligned her behind her back, calling her cross-eyed or “duling”. Toni learned about this from Anne Curtis and confronted Mariel but she denied it. Toni forgave her but soon, she learned from KC Concepcion no less that Mariel says she’s difficult to work with when KC has proven for herself while co-hosting “The Buzz” with Toni that she’s nice and easy to work with. When informed about this, Mariel just texted her fans: “Less talk, less mistakes. The truth will prevail.” It’s said that Boy Abunda, Toni’s co-host in “The Buzz” and Mariel’s manager, are now moving heaven and earth for them to meet in person and iron things out. But as we know, Mariel is still in 7th heaven after her marriage to Robin and is still not available.
ATTY. PERSIDA RUEDA-ACOSTA became familiar to TV viewers due to her exposure as an adviser in TV5’s “Face to Face”. Now, she has her own show, “Public Atorni”, on Thursdays at 10 PM. Born on August 18, 1961, she’s a product of Ateneo and UE and placed 4th at the 1989 bar exams. Married to Atty. Benedicto Acosta, they have two daughters: Kayla, 18, and Camilla, 13. As chief of the Public Attorney’s Office, she heads about 1,400 lawyers but still finds time to do both “Face to Face” and “Public Atorni” which for her is public service as she helps warring parties to reach a compromise. “Our court dockets are now clogged with unresolved cases that move at a slow pace and with the help of ‘Public Atorni,’ we act as mediator to settle these cases amicably and out of court,” she says. “For our first episode, we featured an estafa case and we didn’t stop until there’s a resolution na nagkaayos ang both parties sa barangay level pa lang. For our next episodes, we’d feature cases of slight physical injuries and a pozo negro that has become a nuisance to the neighbourhood. Very positive ang reaction so far kasi we always reach a compromise agreement.”
THANKS TO the wonderful response to our website, www.showbiz-portal.com. Those who visited it are wondering why the reviews we wrote in it were not seen in this column. It’s because the reviews here are often bumped off due to lack of space. Some readers say we should put here our review of “Cinco”, Star Cinema’s horror flick with five stories from five different directors as it could help those who make scary films. So here it is. The film’s main problem is that it defies the most basic rule in horror flicks: make the lead characters sympathetic. In “Cinco”, it’s already emphasized in the trailer that all the lead characters committed a sin. In the “Braso” episode, three frat neophytes (Sam Concepcion, Robi Domingo and AJ Perez) were forced by their master (Baron Geisler) to go inside a morgue where they messed up with a corpse with a broken arm. The cut off arm then haunts them and even comes out Baron’s mouth. Buti nga! In “Mata”, Rayver Cruz is Maja Salvador’s abusive boyfriend who kills a man due to road rage. Maja keeps quiet about it and the victim haunts her. Buti nga! In “Paa”, Jodi Sta. Maria steals the new shows of a girl so the girl chases her, gets hit by a car and dies. The girl haunts Jodi. Buti nga! In “Mukha”, Mariel Rodriguez is a bad clone of Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada”. She keeps on screaming and fires an old employee who then kills himself and haunts her so she goes mad. Buti nga! In “Puso”, Pokwang is an ugly worker in a “perya” made even uglier by prosthetic makeup. She’s in love with Zanjoe Marudo who has the hots for Bangs Garcia. She puts a love potion on Zanjoe’s drink, but Zanjoe is killed and turns into a zombie who chases Pokwang. Buti nga! It’s clear from these summaries alone that you won’t sympathize at all with the lead characters. We hope Star Cinema can give us a more scary movie next time with more sympathetic characters.
