DAWN ZULUETA SINGS 'SEND IN THE CLOWNS' IN A CLASSIC MUSICAL

AFTER HER ACCLAIMED portrayal of a balikbayan searching for her long lost daughter in Joel Lamangan’s “Sigwa”, Dawn Zulueta now tries the legitimate stage in “A Little Night Music” from Stephen Sondheim, also the creator of “West Side Story” and “Sweeney Todd”. This acclaimed Broadway musical is based on the classic film of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, “Smiles of a Summer Night”. Set in a country estate in Europe in the early 20th century, it’s about the love affairs of various couples led by a glamorous actress, Desiree, that Dawn plays. The same role won the Tony best actress award for Catherine Zeta Jones when she played it in Broadway. “I welcome the discipline of the theatre,” says Dawn. “Doing this musical is truly a magical learning experience for me, just like the play itself that is also whimsical and magical. I get to sing the classic 'Send in the Clowns'.”

Directed by Bobby Garcia, “A Little Night Music” starts at the Carlos Romulo Theatre in RCBC Plaza Makati on October 15. From there, it will be taken for a run at Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre. For tickets, call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078 or 840-1887.
