AIRA BERMUDEZ joined the SexBomb dancers in 2000 when she was only 16 years old. “I really love to dance and it paid off,” she says. “I’m the third of five kids at naipagawa ko yung bahay namin sa Raxabago, Tondo para sa mga kapatid ko who’re all married at sa siyam na pamangkin ko. I was able to buy a house for our mom in Antipolo and I got myself a condo unit naman in Mindanao Ave. I was also able to buy two cars.”
She now considers being a castaway in “Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown” one of the biggest breaks in her career. “Apat kaming SexBomb na in-interview and I’m glad akong napili. Although at one point, iyak ako ng iyak sa island at gusto ko nang umuwi, I was able to persist at inabot ako ng 24 days doon. Na-allergy ako at pinantal, but I was able to prove to myself na I’m strong pala not only in dancing at kaya kong mamuhay ng simple lang.”
The SexBomb is celebrating its 11th anniversary today and Aira will join them in donating goods to some charity institutions. “It’s our way of giving back,” she says. “Siempre, we’ll miss yung mga wala na sa’min like Yvette, Jopay, Weng and Danielle.”
Does she have a boyfriend? “Yes, he’s a commercial model named Christian at graduating siya this year from radiology. Six years na kami, but before I joined ‘Survivor’, nag-cool off kami. Nagkabalikan lang kami nang bumalik na ko from the island.”
Jon Hall and Michelle Madrigal are both annoyed with Aubrey Miles. It seems Aira is also bitter with Aubrey. “Sa island yun. Kasi di ko ma-get ang issues niya, like inaagawan ko raw ng trabaho si Nanay Elma. Ang nakakapansin lang nun, yung walang ginagawa. Kasi siya, tamad, hindi tumutulong.”
Eventually, she wants to put up her own dance studio. “Di naman puedeng magsayaw ako forever so I will just teach people how to dance.”
