STARTING THIS Monday, Korina Sanchez and ex-VP Noli de Castro will anchor “TV Patrol” with Ted Failon. Karen Davila and Julius Babao move to the late night newscast “Bandila” with Ces Drilon, which is some sort of a demotion whether they admit it or not since it’s not on primetime. Although “TV Patrol” is said to be number one nationwide per Kantar ratings, it’s obvious ABS wants to beat GMA-7’s “24 Oras”, which is number one in Mega-Manila and which rates so well because of the unassailable credibility of its two anchors, Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco, who are so honest even in their BIR payments that they’re listed as the highest tax-payers among local broadcasters since they don’t cheat in their income tax returns.
Also, GMA’s claim of “walang kinikilingan” rings very true with them. We’re not saying Korina and Noli pale in comparison when it comes to their reputation, but let’s face it, Korina is married to Mar Roxas who’s very much identified with Pres. Noynoy while Noli’s record as a government official isn’t exactly that rosy. We hope that despite this, viewers would still find them the anchors of choice on TV Patrol that outgoing ABS news chief Maria Ressa failed to make number one in Mega Manila during her 5-year stint with ABS.
