A BLESSED CHRISTMAS to all our readers. The Metro-Manila filmfest starts today and we’re glad the executive committee says it will give awards based on quality and not box office performance, which should really be the case. Most of the entries are escapist fare like the action-comedy fantasies “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” and “Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” geared for kids, the horror flicks “Shake, Rattle & Roll 12” and “Dalaw”, the family comedies “Fr. Jejemon” and “Ang Tanging Ina Mo”, and the animated action-fantasy “RPG Metanoia”. Only one is a realistic drama, the period film “Rosario” set in the 1920s and 30s that got an A from the Cinema Evaluation Board, so it has the best chance of bagging most of the awards.
