FINALLY, FRENCHESKA FARR gets to release her debut album, "Inside My Heart", after she won in “Are You the Next Big Star” last year. This was presented to the press at Hard Rock Cafe last Wednesday, for launching at Party Pilipinas tomorrow. It’s said GMA Network will do everything to push her as their answer to Sarah Geronimo.“I’m really thankful to God and GMA na nabigyan na rin ako ng album,” she says. “Noon pa maraming nagtatanong sa’kin about this. I’m so happy and excited but also tense kasi may pressure na very high ang expectations sa’kin. I hope mag-hit nga mga kanta as I really gave it my best. Pero wag na lang kami pagtapatin ni Sarah Geronimo. Ang layo-layo na po niya compared to me.”
She’s lucky to have a good music video expertly conceptualized and directed by Bianca King for her carrier single, “Today I’ll See the Sun”, about a young woman cheated by her boyfriend (Marvin Kiefer) who gets even with him and finds new romance in another guy (Richard Gutierrez). She herself chose the kinds of songs she wants to sing in the album then GMA Records asked composers to write new songs for her. Included in the album is her superb revival of “Suddenly It’s Magic”, the theme song of Richard’s Valentine flick. Also great are her renditions of Tagalog songs “Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito”, “Hulog ng Langit”, “Sa Pangarap Ko” and Vehnee Saturno’s “Isama Mo Ako”, a potential hit. Other endearing cuts are “Everytime”, “Inside My Heart” and U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” that’s a favorite of her parents. We notice most of them are love songs. Is she in love? “Yes, with life and my career. I’m only 18, di pa po ako nagkaka-boyfriend. Sabi ng parents ko, pag 21 na raw ako.”
What can she say to those who call her the next Regine Velasquez? “Ayokong isipin ang ganun. Nandiyan pa rin si Ate Regine, no one can replace her, but sana, I’d be like her na nagtagal talaga at nasa tuktok pa rin up to now.” She’s supposed to be in Cairo to represent her acclaimed film, “Emir”. “Entry po siya sa Cairo international filmfest and Direk Chito Rono wants me to join him there pero nataon naman sa album launch. I’ll be very busy promoting this in various mall shows.”
