VICKY MORALES is surely one of GMA-7’s prized properties for 20 years now. Aside from anchoring “Saksi” on GMA and hosting “True Stories” on Q11, she now celebrats the 8th anniversary of “Wish Ko Lang” that rates consistently high on Saturday at 5 pm. Now, she’ll also be seen on primetime co-hosting the Christmas reality show, “Puso ng Pasko”, with Richard Gutierrez replacing “Survivor Philippines” starting Monday. “I’m having difficulty balancing my time as wife and mom with being a journalist, lalo na nga’t I’m nursing mom to a two month old baby girl, Daniela, who I named after my dad,” she says.
How are her twins, Leon and Pipo, now two and half years old? “They’re going to school na. Sa gabi, when I leave for ‘Saksi’, humahabol na sila. Naaawa nga ako but I tell them mommy has to work.”
And her lawyer husband King Reyno? “Their firm is handling Willie Revillame’s new show at sabi ko sa kanya, bakit nyo naman itinapat pa sa ‘Wish Ko Lang’ ang start niyan?” she laughs.
Her dad in law said then she’ll be given P1 million if she’d give him a grandchild. She gave him twin boys. Did he fulfil his promise? “Yes, in kind, and up to now he buys toys for the boys almost every other day. It’s his way raw to be remembered by the boys. Punong-puno na nga ng toys ang bahay namin so I give away those mga pinagsawaan na.”
Vicky is proud that in the 8 years of “Wish Ko Lang”, they had 1,200 cases so far. So which ones are the most memorable? “The reunion stories touch viewers a lot, like that Fil-Am boy, Kevin, who we helped locate his American dad. When we found his dad, ayaw siyang i-recognize, so I called him several times until pumayag siya and they got reunited. Then there’s the French DJ looking for his Pinoy dad in Manila. Nahanap din naming. We brought him here para magkakilala sila. Then there are the life-changing cases of people suffering from rare ailments na napagaling namin, like this woman whose boobs were huge as palangganas dahil may growth pala sa loob and a former beauty queen na whose jaw also ballooned. We helped them get surgery. For our 8th anniversary with our Pangarap Tour, we have celebrities like Beth Oropesa and Pekto disguising themselves to test good Samaritan. Pekto pretends to be a cripple who can’t go up an overpass to cross the street. People ignored him but an old man got another man and paid him P20 to help carry Pekto. We then followed this man home and learned that he has financial obligations but he still helped Pekto. For being a good Samaritan, we helped him pay all his bills and gave him some presents. We’re going to Davao next Saturday to help Gildo, a 25-year old called Boy Bayag as his testicles became so big they almost reach the floor. It’s a condition called filiriasis and we bring him to a doctor in Davao who operates on him.”
