YUL SERVO is on his second term as Manila councilor but he hasn’t turned his back on his first love: acting.
“I just guested for one week in ‘Jillian: Namamasko Po’ with Marian Rivera at heto, I have a filmfest entry, ‘Rosario’, with Jennylyn Mercado,” he says. “But I don’t accept all offers kasi siempre, priority ko pa rin ang district ko. Nagagalit nga si Direk Maryo (de los Reyes), my manager, kasi may projects na pinalalampas ko. But ‘Rosario’, definitely, I can’t bypass as it’s a great project. Sa budget pa lang, ang laki na. Ang sets, costumes, dahil 1920’s ang period portrayed, ginastusan talaga. Tapos, first directorial job pa ni Albert Martinez na naging friend ko when we did the film ‘Laman’ sa Regal, so I’m glad to support him.”
He plays the first husband of Jennylyn Mercado in “Rosario”. “She defied her family kasi katiwala lang ako sa hacienda nila at sumama siya sa’kin. But later on, when I got sick of TB, pinagpalit niya ko kay Dennis Trillo.”
He has won Manila Filmfest actor before for “Naglalayag” with Nora Aunor. What are his chances of winning again? “I don’t know. Maganda ang role, I did my best, bahala na judges. But the one with Ate Guy was really memorable kasi nanalo pa kong best actor dun sa Brussels Filmfest.”
And he was rumored to be having an affair with Nora then, right? “Yes, just because we played lovers in the story. Hiyang-hiya ako sa kanya nun kasi hindi naman totoo.”
And he was also linked to Piolo Pascual, right? “Yes, na hindi rin naman talaga totoo. We were good friends at dahil dun, naapektuhan yung friendship namin, parang nag-iwasan hanggang nawala ang communication at di ko man lang siya naipagtanggol sa baseless accusations laban sa amin.”
