IN ‘I HEART YOU PARE’, Dingdong Dantes as Kenneth is doing his best to make a man out of his roommate, Tonette (Regine Velasquez), when she’s really a woman named Tonya. “I want to convert him into a real man,” he says. “I told him to wear a man’s clothes at magkilos lalaki. Dinala ko siya sa beerhouse and ordered him na iwasan na yung mga kaibigan niyang bading. Kumbinsido akong I can change him.”
Has that happened to him in real life, trying to make a man out of a gay? “Yes, sa manager ko, si Perry (Lansigan). When I shot a TV commercial in Bangkok, niyaya ko siyang gumimik at dinala ko siya sa isang girlie bar. I ordered beer for him, pero hindi siya talaga nakatagal, lalo roon sa mga babaeng sumasayaw. After our beer, nagyaya na agad umalis kami.”
Since Regine wears men’s clothes in “I Heart You Pare”, is there a possibility for him to wear women’s clothes and come out in drag in a future episode? “I think our director, Andoy Ranay,’ has such a plan. But it’s not been finalized. As of now, our plan is to have our respective partners guest in the show. Una si Marian (Rivera), then followed by Kuya Ogie (Alcasid).”
Apparently, he’s enjoying doing a comedy like “I Heart You Pare”. “Oh yes. At nakakatuwa rin as the feedback is very positive. We thought only women and gays would watch us, but surveys show a big chunk of our audience is male. That means we cater to a wide market. But after this, I want to do naman an action-drama, para maiba naman.”
