SO HOW IS she now? we asked Lovi Poe when we visited the set of “Captain Barbell” where she plays Althea, the teacher of Jillian Ward who’s secretly in love with Richard Gutierrez. “Career-wise, happy ako,” she says. “Kumita ang ‘My Valentine Girls’ and I got good feedback for my acting. Last year, I won two best actress awards for ‘Mayohan’ and ‘Sagrada Familia’. And I’m now nominated again for ‘Mayohan’. I’ve just finished another socially relevant film with Direk Joel Lamangan, ‘Deadline’, about political warlord in Mindanao who kills journalists. I play a Manila journalist whose boyfriend was a victim. Tapos, heto pa, I’m in ‘Captain Barbell’, a very big project na ginagastusan talaga ng GMA-7. I can’t complain.”
But how is it when it comes to her love life? “Happy rin naman ako. The time for crying is over. It’s time to move on.”
So she has gotten over BF Ronald Singson’s fate in Hongkong? “I don’t wanna talk about it anymore, please. Basta I’m thankful sa dami ng blessings that the Lord gives me. As long as I’m with my family, my friends, masaya ako. I’ve learned to appreciate simple things. The painful things I experienced, nakatulong in making me what I am now and I’m happy that people appreciate my acting. Wala naman akong formal training sa acting. Whatever I know now, galing sa experience talaga.”
Folks have noticed she’s become more daring, like in the revealing dress she wore in the “Captain Barbell” press preview. “I was only 16 when I started. I’m 21, siguro naman I’m mature enough to go sexy. At saka, most of the time, nasa projection lang yan.”
