The Gospel of John

As the title connotes, it’s based on the gospel written by St. John, with nothing added or subtracted. Its chief asset is the great cast. Narrated by Christopher Plummer, Henry Ian Cusick gives a commanding portrayal of Jesus. He’s superbly supported by very adequate co-stars, notably Nancy Palk as the Samaritan woman Jacob’s well and Stephen Russell as Pontius Pilate. Lacking the big backing of Hollywood studios, this was released at the same time as Mel Gibson’s movie and was understandably totally demolished at the tills. You can now check it out on DVD.
