KC CONCEPCION turned 26 on April 7 and Star Magic gave her a special birthday dinner on Wednesday night. She’s been with Star Magic since October and she’s happy with her current assignments: “The Buzz” every Sunday, “ASAP” twice a month, and a new film “Forever and a Day” with Sam Milby currently being filmed in Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Iligan, directed by Cathy Molina. She plays a girl with a secret who thinks she’s in control of her life until something happens to her. She’s also in a new soap, “Alta”, playing the role of a rebellious socialite, with Gretchen Barretto, Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo. It’s her cousin who lives in a whimsical ‘Alice in Wonderland’ kind of house in Alabang who hosted a party last night for her birthday since she’s not planning anything for herself. Her best friend from grade one hosted lunch at a hotel poolside with her mom and siblings. Her BF Piolo Pascual wasn’t with her as he is in the States doing shows, but they’ll be meeting there when she joins the Star Magic Tour for the first time, with shows in Shrine Auditorium L.A., San Jose Center, and Lincoln Center, New York on April 15, 16 and 23. With her are 17 other stars including her dad, Gabby Concepcion. How come she’s very open now with Piolo, unlike with Rico Blanco and Direk Lino Cayetano? “This is the first time I have a relationship with someone who’s on cam. Before, pareho pang long distance and no chance to open up about it. Matagal din akong naghintay before I was acknowledged and I appreciated it when PJ admitted it on ‘The Buzz’. I realized it’s better pala na mai-share ko rin yun as it’s part of my life.” What’s his gift to her? “My new bed. Sinurprise niya ko.”
What are their terms of endearment for each other? “I call him Jaguar and he calls me Princess. May kabaduyan ng konti. Galing yun sa Lost Boys ng Peter Pan. My cousin called him that kasi he’s a runner, very strong. Katuwaan lang.” They have no plans of facing the altar anytime soon. “I’m still enjoying my life now. I’m still growing. Feeling ko, hindi pa rin naman niya gusto.” But he’s 34. “Men are like wine. They get better with age. My lolo nga was in his 60s when my mom was born. Look at what happened, she became a megastar.”
She has just left her mom Sharon Cuneta’s home in Wack Wack and moved to her own condo in The Fort. “I want to be independent and positive ang effect sa’kin kasi mas naging balanced ang buhay ko. It’s true you get to know yourself better when you move out of your comfort zone. I realized that parang training yung five years of studies ko in Europe where I did my own household work.” It’s good her mom let her go. “Siya pa nga nagsasabi sa’kin: Anak, when are you going to get all the things you left here? Kasi she wants to renovate my place and convert it for baking her pastries.”
How did she feel when her film with her dad, “I’ll Be There”, didn’t do as well as expected? “I felt bad about it. That’s something you wouldn’t wish on someone very close to you. After that, I realized I don’t want to make a film with someone I’m intimate with, not even with PJ.” What about her talk show “Simply KC” not rating high? “But I enjoyed doing that. It really molded me on what I know about people in showbiz now. But abroad, mas gusto nila ang ‘I’ll Be There’ and those who saw ‘Simply KC’ on TFC. When I go abroad, ang daming nagsasabi sa’king nagustuhan nila.”
