Willie Revillame and show on leave for two weeks

THE STARS and followers of TV5’s dramaseryes, “Babaeng Hampaslupa” and “Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak” will be glad to know the shows can now start airing on time and no longer so late at night. This is because Willie Revillame, probably to cool off as the situation he got himself in has become so intensely hot, has taken a leave of absence from his show for two weeks. He said he will think about what’s happening to him and contemplate on whether he’ll still go back hosting the show after Holy Week. “Bigyan nyo po muna ko ng pagkakataon sa sarili ko, pag-iisipan ko po ito. Maraming nagbintang sa’kin nang wala akong ginagawang masama.”

Willie doesn’t really have much choice as so many advertisers like Mang Inasal, Procter & Gamble, Cebuana Lhullier and Unilever have already pulled out their ads from his show. Various institutions have also criticized him, including the Commission on Human Rights and the Catholic Bishops Conference. In his 30-minute monologue in his show, he gave a dressing down to other stars who criticized him like Jim Paredes, Aiza Seguerra, Agot Isidro, Lea Salonga, Mylene Dizon, Bianca Gonzales, Tuesday Vargas, K Brosas, Lea Navarro. He asked them: “Anong nagawa nyo para sa sambayang Pilipino? Nakatulong na ba kayo sa mahihirap? Nagbigay ba kayo sa Bantay Bata ng P1 million? Yan pong mga yan, winasak ang pagkatao ko sa twitter. Aiza Seguerra, magpakalalaki ka. Bata ka pa, nagtatrabaho ka na. Hindi ba exploitation yun? Mag-isip kayo. Agot Isidro, wala ka namang anak. E, bakit mo ko gaganyanin?”

Honestly, we don’t think Willie’s personal tirades against Aiza and Agot will help win him more sympathizers. Telling Aiza “magpakalalaki ka” implies that he’s insulting her sexual orientation. And making fun of Agot for being childless is so foul and off the cuff. We’re glad Unilever decided to pull out their ads from all game shows. We seriously think most of these shows help foster mendicancy in a lot of people. There are now professional game show contestants who just line up to join such shows instead of looking for jobs. Well, one can say that jobs are so scarce in our country these days, what with so many OFW’s coming home to join the ranks of the unemployed. It’s really the job of our government to create more jobs for them and to improve our economy to lessen poverty that drives people to just pin their hopes on game shows.
