ROCKER MARC ABAYA wants to thank GMA-7 for giving him the chance to work with them in “I Heart You Pare”. “It was great working with Dingdong Dantes, Ms. Celia Rodriguez, Regine Velasquez then Iza Calzado, Paolo Ballesteros, and all the gays in the cast,” he tells at the show’s last taping day which was a wedding scene in the beautiful Fernbrook Gardens in Portofino, Alabang.
He’s obviously no homophobe. “I grew up with gay friends of my mom (Marilou Diaz-Abaya) like the late Director Ishmael Bernal and I think they’re the most beautiful in the world kasi, they’re more in touch with their feminine side. Hindi tulad naming mga lalaki na pa-cool, pa-macho.”
Has any of the gays tried to make a pass at him? “Never. They know I have a girlfriend who’s been my best friend for 11 years now. She’s a dancer sa Air Dance on Studio 23.”
Would he dare play the role of Paolo Ballesteros as Vodka? “Oo, bilib na bilib nga ako kay Paolo as Vodka. He’s a very good actor. It’ll be a great challenge for me.”How’s his mom doing? “She’s at home and still fighting her cancer.” What happened to the film she directed. “Ikaw ang Pag-ibig”, about the Virgin of Penafrancia? “It’s a spiritual film and was never made to make money but to help spread the faith. From what I know, they’ll show it in September in time for the Penafrancia Festival in Naga.”
