ALEX GONZAGA is now a Viva artist. She signed up a four-movie with Viva, but for TV, she’s still with TV5. This is just like Jennylyn Mercado whose film career is handled by Viva but, when it comes to TV, she’s still with GMA-7. It seems like this is the trend now: the piecemeal kind of management, as also in the case of Heart Evangelista who’s managed by Viva only for her commercials and endorsements.
Alex’ first movie will be directed by Wenn Deramas, who has megged her Ate Toni before. Who’d she like to be her leading man? “Kahit sino. Maski si Boss Vic del Rosario. Joke.” She feels blessed that her first soap, “Babaeng Hampaslupa”, is one of the topraters on TV5 so it’s just been extended up to July. “Talagang kabado ako when I first did it, lalo na’t puro magagaling na senior stars ang kasama ko like Susan Roces, Alice Dixson, Jay Manalo and Eddie Garcia. Intimidated ako noong una kasi ang huhusay nila, but I took it as a challenge dahil alam kong this is a big project. Ayokong ako pa ang maging makakasira rito. And in fairness to them, they really helped me sa acting ko, inalalayan nila ko, lalo na sa mga batuhan ng linya. At dahil seryosong drama ang role ko rito as the missing heiress Grace Elizabeth Wong, inalis muna ko dun sa gag show na ‘Lokomoko U’ at maging sa ‘Juicy Express’, pinabawasan yung pagpapatawa ko’t panggagaya sa ibang stars. Nakagawa na rin ako ng shows sa ABS-CBN noon pero comedy and fantasy like ‘Let’s Go’ and ‘Tiny Tony’. First heavy drama ko talaga ang ‘Babaeng Hampaslupa’ at ang saya-saya ko dahil even in public, very positive ang feedback about the show. In the new season, maghihirap ang pamilya Wong dahil sa’kin.”
Despite her busy sked, Alex has not neglected her studies. She’s taking up education-child developoment at University of Asia and the Pacific and is graduating this coming semester.
