Born to be Wild won ASEAN Biodiversity Award

CONGRATS TO GMA’S environmental show, “Born to Be Wild”, chosen as ASEAN Biodiversity Champion by the ASEAN Biodiversity Centre that honors the best conservation work in the media, business and youth sectors in the ASEAN region, with Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia , Laos , Malaysia , the Philippines , Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam participating in the competition. Host Doc Ferds Recio says: “We’ve traveled from as far as Batanes to Sulu to document the country’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage. To have our efforts recognized in the ASEAN region is very humbling and inspiring at the same time.” Adds co-host Kiko Rustia: “Our program’s aim is to bring the idea of conservation to the public, so that hopefully viewers would want to learn more and participate in their own way. We also salute those who do conservation work in the field – they are the real heroes and champions.”

Launched in 2007 as a response to the need for a program devoted entirely to environmental awareness, the show has since joined countless wildlife rescues, featured the discovery of new Philippine species, and has spearheded expeditions to document the country’s rich biodiversity. The program also does community work and assists in the turnover and rehabilitation of wildlife. It was awarded for its body of work that includes a story on the single largest release of Philippine crocodiles back into the wild, features on endangered species like the Philippine Eagle, stories on marine sanctuaries and protected forests like Mt. Pulag , and the rescue of an Asian black bear in Vietnam. The program airs tonight after Saksi, on GMA-7.
