Howie Severino shows how slow-moving our country's justice system is

HOWIE SEVERINO shows how slow our country’s justice system in the docu “Purgatoryo” tomorrow night on GMA’7’s “I-Witness”. Matias Domequil, 54, has been in Manila City Jail for 9 years for illegal recruitment, waiting for his verdict when our constitution mandates that a criminal case must be decided within 90 days only. A former businessman, Matias has been abandoned by his family and lawyer since he was jailed, all of his properties have already been seized by the state. He’s just one of thousands of inmates across the country in limbo, uncertain about their fate, victims of an inefficient judicial system. Suspects who cannot afford bail are trapped inside overcrowded prisons, mixed with hardened tattooed gang members. Howie follows Matias and two other long-time jail inmates as they navigate through this earthly purgatory, all of them hoping for a speedy end to their ordeal. Enter “Purgatoryo” with Howie tonight after Saksi, on GMA-7.
