Marian Rivera finally appears in Amaya starting Monday

DO YOU KNOW that GMA-7’s hit series, “Amaya”, was inspired by Kara David’s “I-Witness” documentary, “Ang Huling Prinsesa”? “When I watched it, I got excited and curious about our pre-Hispanic history and our ancient epics in Panay,” says “Amaya” creator and headwriter Suzette Doctolero. “I felt it’s about time a soap becomes a vehicle not just for entertainment but for education about our past.”

For the docu, Kara went deep into the mountains of Panay and met Isiang, one of the last remaining tribal princesses in a remote mountain community. She’s the “binukot” of her tribe, an ancient princess who wears a veil to cover her face and is carried in a hammock so her feet won’t touch the ground. Her job is to memorize their tribe’s hours-long epics. Marian Rivera plays a “binukot” in “Amaya” and she was required to watch the docu to help her internalize her role.

“Amaya” rated high in Mega-Manila on its pilot week (26.2 on Monday, 26.7 on Tuesday) even if Marian Rivera has yet to appear in it as her mom Lani Mercado was just still pregnant with her when the story started. This Monday, her fans will finally get to see her as the grownup Amaya and, hopefully, the ratings will go up even higher and confirm Marian’s title as Queen of Primetime. GMA bosses are very pleased with the show as viewer reaction is very positive, saying the lavish production values truly merit “Amaya” being called an epicserye, the first of its kind in local TV.

To further promote “Amaya”, Marian and co-stars Glaiza de Castro, Rochelle Pangilinan, Sheena Halili, Dion Ignacio, AJ Dee and Mikael Daez will go on a roadshow tour of Pangasinan, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija this weekend. This Saturday at 10 AM, they will have a show at SM Rosales in Pangasinan. Then they go on motorcade in Dagupan City at 4 PM and do a show at the CSI City Mall Atrium at 5 PM. Sunday, they go to SM San Fernando Pampanga at 10 AM then they’ll have a motorcade going to Nueva Ecija at 4 PM for a show at NE Pacific Mall in Cabanatuan at 5 PM.
