MARVIN AGUSTIN gives a fairly convincing performance as the dedicated school principal who’s beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf in Joel Lamangan’s Cinemalaya entry, “Patikul”. “I admire the selflessness of teachers who risk their lives teaching in war-torn communities like Patikul in Sulu,” he says. “I’m so proud to be part of this movie that stresses the value of education.”
On TV, he’s also excited to be host of “Kitchen Superstar”, the biggest cooking-reality game show on television that will reveal the three finalists for the finale this week. Prizes are P100,000-worth of kitchen appliance, a fabulous Asian cruise for four, a whopping P1 million-peso cash prize and the honor of being the first ever Kitchen Superstar. The cooking show brought contestants from NCR, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Davao , Naga, Cebu and Iloilo to Manila to battle it out in various Kitchen Showdowns. “One of the things I love about this game show is that it gives a chance to those who have not been professionally trained to cook. As long as they qualify and have a passion for cooking, they got the chance to compete and pursue their dreams,” Marvin says. Last week, NCR representative and call center agent Arabella Padilla became the 1st cook to make it to the finale. Three other cooks -- TJ Temelo from Iloilo , Ting Lledo from Baguio and Jhast Andaya from Dagupan, Pangasinan -- will compete for the two remaining slots. Today, the finalists will create a three-course meal intended to impress some of toughest judges the competition ever had: Chef Gene Gonzales of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies (CACS); Red Crab Group’s Raymund Magdaluyo, and Chef Pablo “Boy” Logro, the 1st-ever Filipino Executive Chef of a 5-star hotel and founder of Chef Logro’s Institute of Culinary Kitchen Services (CLICKS). Find out who wins on Friday, aired just before “Eat Bulaga” on GMA-7.
