ALL IS SET for the 2011 Cinemalaya Filmfest to be held in July at the CCP and Greenbelt Theatre. There are three categories: Directors Showcase for established filmmakers, New Breed for new directors, and Short Feature. There are only four finalists in the Directors Showcase and here’s the first two: “Bisperas (Eve)” by Director Jeffrey Jeturian, “Busong (Palawan Fate)” by Auraeus Solito, “Isda (Fable of the Fish)” by Adolfo Alix Jr., and “Patikul” by Joel Lamangan.
“Bisperas” - revolves on the Aguinaldo Family with Tirso Cruz III and Rachel Villavicencio as parents, Jennifer Sevilla, Julia Clarete and Edgar Allan Guzman as their kids. They hear mass on Christmas Eve, and upon their arrival from church, they found their home has been burglarized. In the process of identifying the stolen items, they uncover lingering sentiments they have hidden from each other that lead them to re-examine their relationships with one another and some emotional confrontations.
“Busong” – Alessandra de Rossi stars as Punay, a woman in Palawan born with wounds on her feet that prevent her from walking so she has to be carried in a hammock by her brother (Rodrigo Santikan) while they’re searching for a healer who can cure her. They go through the changing landscape of Palawan and several people help carry her, including a woman searching for her husband, a fisherman who lost his boat, and a young man searching for himself. Punay is a symbol for Palawan, Solito’s home province.
