CIARA SOTTO plays the role of a Muslim mom named Tarhata in the Cinemalaya entry, “Patikul”. “It’s the first time I play a mother role at ang anak ko rito, Angeli Nicole Sanoy, is 10 years old,” she says. “When I was told si Joel Lamangan ang director, I said yes agad, no ifs and buts kasi I worked with him before in ‘Mano Po 6’ and I enjoyed it so much. I also got a lot of positive reviews for my performance. Dito, nahirapan ako kasi illiterate ang role ko. In one scene sa coffee farm, kakain kaming sama-sama ng ibang farmers nang nakakamay na nakaupo sa lupa. Nag-cut si Direk and asked: hindi ka marunong magkamay? I said marunong po. Sabi niya, kailangan magmukha ka talagang mahirap. Turuan nyo yan. Si Allen Dizon ang nagturo sa’kin. Kumain daw akong parang karpintero lang. Nakuha ko naman agad. Wala rin akong make-up dito at di puede magmukhang sosyal. I’m so proud after the gala screening ng ‘Patikul’ sa CCP, ang lakas ng applause and everyone’s congratulating us. They all liked it and I’m so proud to be part of this film.”
Ciara’s parents Sen. Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa, and husband Jojo Oconer, watched it with her. Helen told us: “You should also watch Ciara in the musical ‘Sweet Charity’ at Meralco next month.” Ciara now is also into theatre. She was good in “Magsimula Ka” and “Rent”. After winning as a pole dancer in “Talentadong Pinoy Celebrity Edition”, she’s now also a pole dance instructor. No plans of having a baby yet? “Not yet. Jojo and I are enjoying each other’s company muna.”
