Director Joel Lamangan sad with the results of Cinemalaya Awards Night

WE HEARD Director Joel Lamangan is sad that his Cinemalaya entry, “Patikul”, only won best supporting actor for his ward, Jim Pebanco, and two special awards: the Audience Choice Award and the Kids Treat Netpac Award. What happened was a repetition of last year when his “Sigwa” also failed to bag major trophies and likewise just won the best supporting actor award for Tirso Cruz III. “Sigwa” was later vindicated this year when it won three best picture awards from other award-giving bodies (plus more trophies for Tirso and Zsa Zsa Padilla), whereas the choices of the Cinemalaya judges then were ignored. Next year, we have no doubt “Patikul” will be vindicated once again in other award derbies. So just grin and bear it, Direk Joel, after all, you have a new movie to direct intended for the Metro filmfest, “Hototay”, and you also have a new soap on GMA-7, “Pahiram ng Isang Ina”. Just count your blessings.
