Gloria Romero loves working with child stars

GLORIA ROMERO has supported the careers of so many child stars. “Vilma Santos was with me in her very first film, ‘Trudis Liit’,” she says. “I was with Lorna Tolentino in ‘Lumuha Pati mga Anghel’, Gina Alajar and Roderick Paulate in ‘Kaibigan Kong Sto. Nino’, also Maricel Soriano, Snooky Serna, Angelica Panganiban at marami pang iba.”

She now gets to work with the top child stars of GMA-7: with Mona Louise Ray in “Munting Heredera” and Jillian Ward in “Andres de Saya”. “I’m happy that both shows are rating high,” she says. “This week, I’m pretending to be sick in ‘Munting Heredera’ to find out kung sino ang mga nanloloko lang sa’kin in my role as Donya Ana. In ‘Andres’ naman, magkalaban pa rin kami ni Cesar Montano as I side with my apo, Iza Calzado.”

So who’s better: Mona or Jillian? “Magkaiba sila. I’m doing drama with Mona kaya iyak kami ng iyak and comedy naman with Jillian kaya tawa kami ng tawa. Pareho silang lista, maganda ang mukha. Mona never acted before kaya sa scene noon na hinulog siya sa balon, she was so scared, but now she knows everything is just make believe. Jillian is a born entertainer. Sa taping breaks, she makes us all laugh with her antics.”

How’s her apo, Chris Gutierrez, who’s with Star Magic? “He decided to focus muna on his course, interdisciplinary studies at La Salle. We were all affected by the sudden passing of his friend, AJ Perez, kasi magkasama sila lagi. Pag walang work, they hang out sa bahay kaya we really cried when he left.”
