RAYMOND GUTIERREZ interviewed Carla Abellana live on “Showbiz Central”. Carla said she never threatened us. She’s such a big liar. In part, this is exactly what she wrote in her email to us that we consider a personal affront: “It makes me wonder where you got all your information. Obviously this article is based on second-hand information, therefore unreliable. This is an opportunity for you to receive straight feedback from me. Please double check on your information and "facts" first before publishing anything. A basic rule that I'm sure a respected writer such as you already know and consider common sense. I can only hope that you publish an erratum article following this. If not, I can always clarify this to other press members during our succeeding press cons for My Neighbor's Wife.”
Imagine having the gall on telling us how to write a column when we’ve been doing this job since 1976. We're one of the most approachable writers in showbiz and she could have easily talked to us instead of sending a strongly worded letter. She probably thought her threat would intimidate us. Since her threat says she’ll “clarify this to other press members during our succeeding presscons for ‘My Neigbor’s Wife’”, that’s exactly what we did at the movie’s very first presscon. We immediately confronted her about it since she asked for it, without anymore waiting for her so-called “succeeding presscons”.
We’re really so disappointed in Carla as we’ve supported her since she joined showbiz. We’re one of the first writers who interviewed her when Mother Lily signed her up for Regal. We came out with a full article in the Star. Later on, she was launched by GMA in “Rosalinda” and again, we wrote very positive things about her, not only for “Rosalinda” but all her succeeding shows like “SRO”, “Basahang Ginto”, “The Last Prince” and “Magic Palayok”. We also praised her performance in the “Funeraria” episode of “Shake 12” and we even defended her when some writers made fun of her “malalaking pata” when she joined a fashion show and GMA made her a host of “Starstruck” saying she’s inept. We wrote she should be given a chance since she’s just a newcomer.
Through all this, not once did she acknowledge that she has read any of the positive things we wrote about her. GMA would set up interviews with her, we’d talk to her and she’d answer our questions perfunctorily. She’s not one of those stars with a warm and friendly personality. She even makes you feel she’s just doing you a favor when she answers your questions. We don’t really mind that since there are many such stars. But when she sent us an email just because she didn’t like something we wrote, we really felt bad. Here she is, totally oblivious to do the good things we wrote about her, and now she’s reprimanding us for something that is actually meant to promote her new movie? She behaved like someone who’s already a big star, but come to think of it, even big stars like Vilma and Sharon never behaved like her. GMA gave her all the push, but her launching show, “Rosalinda”, was never really a big hit and she remains to be a minor starlet up to now, simply because she’s not only ill mannered, she also has no star quality or X factor charisma that would make viewers want to embrace her.
