How Director Joey Reyes foresaw that Eugene Domingo will be a big star someday

EUGENE DOMINGO did her first movie with Director Joey Reyes, “Emma Salazar Case”, exactly 20 years ago. She played the housemaid of Alice Dixson and Jomari Yllana. Since then, they’ve done so many movies together like “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal”, “Katas ng Saudi”, “Working Girls” and now, “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi.” “At may ginagawa kami uling bagong movie, ‘Househusband’,” says Uge. “I play Ryan Agoncillo’s neighbor na naging best friend niya.”

Did Joey foresee that Uge will be a big star someday? “Three points. First, matalinong babae si Uge. Second, very professional siya kasi ang training niya is with theatre. Third, I really felt it was just a matter of time before her talent will be appreciated. May artista lang na gusto, maging popular at yumaman, they last siguro for about three years. Then there are those who really love their work and are not just doing it for money or popularity. They’re the true actresses, not just celebrities, like Uge. Now, she just broke the barrier between indie and mainstream movies with ‘Babae sa Septic Tank’ and no actress of any magnitude has succeeded in doing that.”

In “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi”, Joey says he aimed to do a comedy “na magpapaisip din sa mga tao about marriage. I hope viewers will realize it’s a lifetime commitment at mas mahal pang magpa-annul kaysa sa gastos sa pagpapakasal.”
