ABS-CBN PREVIEWED the first few episodes of “My Binondo Girl” to the press last Sunday night.
Kim Chiu and leading men Jolo Revilla, Xian Lim and Matteo Guidicelli were there. Kim’s fans won’t be disappointed as she’s very effective in her role as Jade, the story’s tomboyish heroine who’s hungry for the love of the Chinese father who tried to give her up for adoption when she was still a baby. The series starts on Jade’s 5th birthday when she’s still played by child star Mutya. Her wish is to see her dad. Her mom,
Ai Ai de las Alas, took her to the cemetery to show the grave of her dad who Ai Ai said died when a karetela horse trampled on him upon their arrival from China. It turns out Ai Ai is lying. She used to be an English teacher in China and that’s where she met Jade’s dad Chen Sy (Richard Yap). Chen’s family is against her as she’s Pinay. When she gave birth to a baby girl, they want to give the baby away for adoption but Ai Ai took her home to Manila with her pregnant with their second child, a son.
Jade is surprised when her dad arrives one day. She thought her dad wants to get her, but it turns out he’s looking for his son Yuan, who he didn’t know died when Ai Ai delivered him. Chen is now very rich and married to Ai Ai’s friend, Cherry Pie Picache. He has a son with Cherry Pie but he still wants to get Yuan, his first born.
Jade grows up to be Kim hoping her dad would love her someday. Her best friend from childhood is Onyx (Jolo Revilla.) He loves her but she ignores him. How Kim will dress up as a boy and pretend to be Yuan will be shown in future episodes. "Binondo Girl" started airing last night.
