THE YOUNG STARS of GMA Films’ “Tween Academy: Class of 2012” came to the final presscon of their launching movie in the formal clothes they wore at the film’s climactic JS Prom scene shot recently at a plush hotel in Resorts World. Derrick Monasterio and Kris Martin sang solos then did a duet. Jake Vargas also did a solo, then the whole cast the film’s theme song, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”. They all admit that they’re nervous as this is their first big movie and this will prove that they now really have lots of fans not only TV but also the big screen. “But we’re confident magugustuhan ito ng viewers dahil sinuportahan ito nang husto ng GMA Films,” says Derrick. “Maraming big scenes and even the songs they’d hear, puro magaganda at piling-pili.”
He’s paired with Lexi Fernandez in the film, also his partner in “Sinner or Saint”. Lexi is the daughter of Maritoni Fernandez. This is not her first film since she has appeared as a child star in “You and Me Against the World” when she was six with Robin Padilla. “But I hardly remember that movie so I still consider ‘Tween Academy’ as my debut film,” she says.
Most of the love teams in “Tween Academy” have their own TV show on GMA aside from the Sunday youth shows, “Party Pilipinas and “Tween Hearts”. Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza just had “Nita Negrita”. Kristoffer Martin and Joyce Ching are now in “Munting Heredera”. Bea Binene and Jake Vargas are in “Pahiram ng Isang Ina”. Now that they’re promoting “Tween Academy” in various mall shows, they always travel together and have become very close each other.
“Lahat kaming tweens have great bonding together,” says Lexi. “Walang inggitan sa grupo namin at lagi kaming nagsusuportahan. We’ll all be friends for life.”
Also in the movie are Elmo Magalona, Alden Richards, Louise de los Reyes and Yassi Pressman.
