WRITERS SAY Toni Gonzaga is so lucky to have a BF like Dir. Paul Soriano. “Good catch talaga as he’s not only good-looking but also bright, talented, God-fearing and mabait pa,” they say.
At the presscon of his film, “Thelma”, Paul said he’s turning 30 in October and he’s ready to settle down. He’s just waiting for Toni to be ready herself. She said she’ll be ready in 3 years as she’s now only 27, which means Paul will be 33 if and when they do tie the knot 3 years from now. “I’m really saving for the wedding and for our life together,” says Paul. “But I don’t want to rush her. Marriage is something serious, it’s forever, for the rest of your life, so you shouldn’t force anyone into it. Toni is still so focused on her career and I can’t blame her as she worked so hard to get to where she is today. I want to be an inspiration and not a hindrance to her career.”
His late grandpa, Nestor de Villa, was a famous matinee idol. Did he never entertain ideas of being an actor himself? “I’m not comfortable. I’m shy. In ‘Amnesia Girl’, they asked me to do a guest role, but I said no. Siguro later, when I’m an established director, I might do cameos.”
How did he feel when he was linked to his star in “Thelma”, Maja Salvador? “Toni warned me about such kinds of intrigues in showbiz kasi she herself gets linked to her leading men. I feel sad for Maja kasi siya yung girl, it’s unfair. I consider her my kid sister, parang ako kuya niya. I don’t think it’s necessary for us to be linked to drum up interest for ‘Thelma’ that can definitely stand by itself. Maja and I are really proud of our work. She delivers a great performance and the story will touch the hearts of viewers so hindi na kailangang intrigahin kami.”
