What's the chance of Nora Aunor recovering her lost glory?

NORA AUNOR is very much in the news these days and we wish that her TV show and movie would be finished soon so she can really strike while the iron is still hot. But at the rate things are going, looks like her fans would have to wait a bit longer because she can see her again on screen. We hope public interest in her will be sustained, but the TV series she’s supposed to do doesn’t have a full script yet and its director, Mario O’Hara, who has not megged on TV for sometime, is not exactly known to be a fast worker.

Even more so in the case of her director in “El Presidente”, Tikoy Aguiluz, who’s been filming “Kingpin: Asiong Salonga Story” for sometime now with Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito. Someone told us it takes the award-winning director a long time to finish a scene so his output is only two to three scenes a day. With “El Presidente” being a historical period film, we can expect him to be even more careful and meticulous in shooting each scene. What Ate Guy needs is a director who delivers fast, like Joey Reyes or Joel Lamangan as they can quickly quench the thirst of her fans to see her acting again.

With all the publicity she’s getting, even young people who don’t know her at all got interested in her. Our daughter in law Shirleen, born in 1984, asked us: “Dad, gaano ba kasikat si Nora noon?” So we had to explain she was truly a phenomenon in her time. We hope her second coming will really be translated into high ratings on TV and big bucks at the box office, so that TV5 and Gov. Ejercito, the folks who invested generously on her, will get their money’s worth. After all, it’s common knowledge that there’s more premium on youth these days as demographic studies show we have more younger viewers who’d go more for the Tween Stars of GMA and the Mara Clara stars of ABS-CBN. And realistically speaking, what do you think are the chances of “El Presidente” being a blockbuster at the tills? It’s not even really Ate Guy’s film as the title roler is Gov. Ejercito, who, let’s admit it, is also not exactly a top box office draw. Their best chance is for it to be an entry in the coming Metro filmfest. If it’s really good, then it might win awards and that will certainly help it at the box office.
