ALWYN UYTINGCO is ecstatic that he’s getting very positive reviews for his portrayal of Nora Aunor and Bembol Roco’s hot-headed son, Alfonso, in “Sa Ngalan ng Ina” that starts airing on TV5 this Monday. “Nakakatuwa talaga ang ganda ng mga feedback,” he says. “Maganda kasi yung character ko, maangas, laging nang-aasar, thirsty for revenge sa pagkamatay ng father ko. But then, kahit gaano kaganda ang role mo, if you can’t deliver, hindi pa rin lalabas ng maayos. I’m thankful to our directors, Mario O’Hara and Jon Red, kasi inaaalalayan nila ko. Magka-contrast yung characters namin dito ni Edgar Allan Guzman as my brother. Ako, emosyon ang pinaiiral. Siya, utak. He’s the one who’ll discover who’s the mastermind in the murder of our dad, but I’ll be the one who’ll take action against the killers.”
He’s particularly effective in the scene where Rosanna Roces, their political foe, came to the wake of his dad and he trampled on the flowers she brings to console with them. “Galit na galit ang character ko roon and he has the right para magalit, mali nga lang ang mga diskarte niya. In that scene, hindi ko lang pinagtatadyakan yung flowers like I was instructed kundi dinuran ko pa as part ng adlib ko. But in a scene with Ate Guy, ibang atake ang pinagawa sa’kin ni Direk Mario. I’m in the hospital at dinalaw niya ko but I berate her, pero walang sigawan. Gusto ni Direk, low key lang like Ate Guy’s style na mata sa mata lang. Si Al Pacino in ‘Godfather’ ang naging peg ko.”
How’s it working with Nora Aunor? “It’s a great experience. Ang galing pa rin niyang umarte, parang hindi siya nawala for eight years. I know she’s a powerful actress so I get yung vibes, yung energy from her pag may eksena kami para di niya ko lamunin.”
Alwyn started as a child actor in “Ang TV”. “Lumaki ko sa ABS. I was also part of ‘Ang TV2’. But there was a time I was jobless and I told JM de Guzman na naging best friend ko sa ‘Ang TV’, ayoko ng mag-artista. He’s the one who told me to try indie films. Sabi ko, magkano talent fee diyan? He said, minimal, but the experience you’d gain from doing roles na di mo magagawa sa TV o sa mainstream, ibang klase. And it’s true. I did indie films and fell in love with acting again.”
It was TV5 that gave him a good break in “Babaeng Hampaslupa”. He now signed a 3-year exclusive contract with them. Aside from “Sa Ngalan ng Ina”, he’s also in “Lokomoko U” after his stint in “Iskul Bukol”. “But they allowed me to do ‘Enteng ng Ina Mo’ sa Star Cinema for the filmfest where I play Ai Ai de las Alas’ gay son.”
How’s his GF Jennica Garcia? “One and a half years na kami. She’s part of the new Dingdong Dantes soap that will start taping soon.”
