BEA BINENE IS turning 14 on November 4 but she doesn’t plan to hold a big party. “I’d rather spend it by going abroad with my mom,” she says. “Sa China sana or Singapore.”
Their director, Joel Lamangan, in her hit afternoon soap with Jake Vargas, “Pahiram ng Isang Ina”, is also celebrating his birthday with a big coming out party this Saturday at a big resto in West Avenue. What’s her birthday wish for him? “Good health and more power sa career niya.”
In her dramatic scenes, it seems so easy for her to make tears well up from her eyes. How does she motivate herself? “I just think of my dad who I haven’t seen for a long time,” she says. “He left noong June pa. Three months na. We don’t even know where he is. Sana, magparamdam naman siya sa birthday ko. Dati, umalis man siya, after a month, bumabalik agad at may communication. Ngayon, wala talaga. Tinetext ko siya but no reply.”
Why did her dad leave? “I can’t reveal naman po. Sa kanila na ng mommy ko yun.” Check out related article: Bea Binene refused to talk about estranged dad.
But career-wise, she feels so blessed. “Aside from ‘Pahiram ng Isang Ina’, nasa ‘Tween Hearts’ din po ako, also ‘Good News’ on GMA News Channel 11 and ‘Party Pilipinas’.”
Even if she’s busy, she has not neglected her studies. “I’m in 2nd year high school po sa School of Tomorrow. Tuloy rin po ang training ko ng wushu.”
Bea was discovered when she was 6 years old in Starstruck Kids. She was just a runner up but she remains active in showbiz up to now. In contrast, the winner, Sam Bumatay, has faded back into anonymity. After doing “Tween Academy”, Bea is now doing a new movie, Sen. Bong Revilla’s filmfest entry “Ang Panday, Ikalawang Aklat”, also with Jake Vargas.
