WHILE IN IRIGA, we (along with Nestor Cuartero of Manila Bulletin and Dindo Balares of Balita) had the chance to take a sidetrip to the beautiful Lake Buhi, home of the smallest fish called Sinarapan, as arranged by the ever helpful Angelica Matubis Baylon from Mayor Gazmen’s office.
It’s sad that most parts of the road going there were in a bad state of disrepair. Mayor Gazmen wanted to repair it but it’s actually under the responsibility of the provincial government of Gov. L Ray Villafuerte, so her hands are tied.
But the lake itself is really a marvel. It could be an excellent tourist destination if properly developed. We did get to visit a private resort there owned by Cyrus Obsuna, who’s actually based in Mactan, Cebu. It has a huge 18-room inn and four well designed cabanas built by the lakeside along with a beautiful swimming pool. It’s really a great vacation place.
