The brutality of Abu Sayaff revealed in a video

ONE OF THE highlights of the Iriga Foundation Day Anniversary we attended is the tribute Mayor Madelaine Alfelor Gazmen gave to their late soldier, Sgt. Desiderio Bajan Serdan Jr., who was killed by the Abu Sayyaf a few months ago. A concelebrated mass was held at the Heroes Park and a posthumous award was given to his family. Later on, we saw the video on how the poor soldier was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf. The cellphone with the footage was retrieved from one of the soldiers after their camp was raided.

We all cringed at the brutality of the murderous act. Several soldiers were beheaded, not just Sgt. Serdan. What’s so appalling and horrifying was the way their heads were dismembered from their bodies. We thought it’s just with one blow of a big knife. But it turned out their necks were slit repeatedly like one would kill a chicken. In Tagalog, it’s called “Ginigilitan ng leeg.” After a while, all of us can’t look at it anymore. You’d wonder if the Abu Sayyaf had any kind of conscience at all as they were even laughing while they were severing the heads of their poor victims. Let’s pray for the repose of the souls of the soldiers and for God to punish who did this ruthless act to them.
