Daughter of Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla, Zia Quizon, launched her self-titled debut album

THE DAUGHTER of Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla, Zia Quizon, launched her self-titled debut album for PolyEast Records. She looks much better and more appealing in person than when she sings in “ASAP”. She’s turning 20 on September 23 and is a La Salle junior majoring in Literature. Aren’t her parents a tough act to follow?

“I know,” she says. “Not only them but also my brothers and sisters, kaya ayoko mag-showbiz as I know there’ll always be comparison. Parang nangyari lang lahat. Before, I was just a student who’s always in the library. Then PolyEast, where my parents and sister Karylle also belong, asked me if I’d be interested to do an album and here it is.”

How did she prepare for it? “I asked advice from my mom and sister and they told me to just be myself. I practised a lot with my songs and in playing the guitar.”

Will she go into acting? “No, no acting kasi mahiyain nga ako. I’m not really kikay. Boyish nga ako kasi as I was growing up, marami akong mga kuya and I relate with them. But musical theatre, I’m willing to try it.”

We first saw her with her mom when she was about 12 or 13 and she was fat then. How did she lose weight? “Diet and exercise. I read about nutrition to find out what’s good for my blood type. I did it not to do it to be thin but to be healthy. They tell me I need to lose some more. Konti pa raw.”

Has she had a boyfriend? “Yes, two, non-showbiz. One at a time. I’m a serial monogamist. Each lasted about a year. The first one, we parted as he had to go abroad to study. We tried long distance relationship but it didn’t work. The other one, we just drifted apart. But I’m friends with my exes.” How does it feel each time her dad is reported to have died? “It’s weird and silly. One time, while they were reporting it, he was there watching TV. He’s 83 but he’s still up and about.”

Her album has 3 revivals (a remake of her mom’s “Mambobola”, “Smile” and “So Much in Love”) and 3 originals (Jungee Marcelo’s “Ako Na Lang”, Kiko Salazar’s “Dear Lonely”, and her own composition which is the carrier single, “Simple Girl”.) Get her album at Odyssey or Astroplus and you’ll have a free ticket to her concert at Teatrino Greenhills on September 22, 8 PM.
