EDDIE GARCIA has worked with the country’s top comedians from the time of Dolphy and the late Panchito, Chichay and Aruray at Sampaguita Pictures in the 50s up to the present. He now gets the chance to work with gay icon Vice Ganda in “Praybeyt Benjamin” that opens on October 12.
How will he describe Vice Ganda compared to past comedians he has worked with? “Vice Ganda is a consummate actor,” he says. “He wants to excel in all his scenes so he really prepares for them. You can’t compare him with others kasi bawat comedian, may kanya-kanyang katangian and Vice has a style all his own na unique sa kanya in making people laugh. He’ll really go a long, long way.”
What can Vice say about this? “Siempre pa, I’m flattered. Kung mga ordinaryong tao lang, pag pinupuri ako, masayang-masaya na ako. What more when it’s coming from someone like Sir Eddie who plays my lolo in the story. I’m really so happy pumayag siyang makasama ko sa movie. It’s a tradition in our family that all the boys serve in the military. Pero pagdating nga sa’kin, di ako puede kasi bading ako at hindi yun matanggap ni Sir Eddie. But when he gets kidnapped by terrorists, dun ako nagsundalo and trained with Derek Ramsay, Jimmy Santos, Kean Cipriano, DJ Durano and Carlos Agassi. Yung training scenes ko with them, riot talaga.”
Going back to Eddie, he once said in an interview that he had experienced gay sex before. Is this true? “Yes, when I was 15. Lahat ng bagay sa mundo mo, kailangan mong subukan. Pero yung gaya ng ginagawa ng Arabo sa camel, di ako umabot dun.”
