Why Ang Babae sa Septic Tank deserves being nominated at the Oscars

THE FEEDBACK on the choice of “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” as the Philippine entry in the Oscars’ best foreign language film category is generally very positive. We personally think it’s the best choice among those considered. We notice that Oscar voters are very fond of films about films and filmmaking as in the huge success of the French entry “Day for Night”, the Italian entries “Fellini’s 8&1/2” (which was remade as the musical “Nine”) and “Cinema Paradiso” and the German film about an actor, “Mephisto”.

We just hope producer Atty. Joji Alonso can also make arrangements for it to be released in the States even on a limited run so that it will also qualify for the Golden Globe Awards that’s more or less a forerunner of the Oscars. This would give the movie a good edge and might also give it the right momentum in its struggle on the road to the Academy Awards where no Filipino film has ever been nominated before.
