AFTER ITS SUCCESSFUL premiere as the closing film of Cinemalaya where it got lots of good feedback, people are asking when Director Quark Henares’ “Rakenrol” will have its regular run. The long wait is over as it’s finally set to open in theatres on September 21.
The movie is about the greatest Filipino rock ‘n roll band you’ve never heard of, the Hapipaks composed of Glaiza de Castro as vocalist, Jason Abalos as composer-lead guitarist, Alwyn Uytingco as drummer and Ketchup Eusebio as bassist.
The film has received much acclaim at the Udine Film Festival in Italy and the Asia Pacific Film Festival in Los Angeles. It’ll also be screened at the international filmfests in Hawaii, Göteborg, San Diego and New York. “Rakenrol” made this year’s CineMalaya one for the ages, by throwing a concert at the Harbour Square at CCP, with big name bands such as Itchyworms, Ciudad, Taken by Cars, Pedicab performing to a wild cheering crowd.
“Shooting the film with a genius like Director Quark Henares is an unforgettable experience for me,” says Glaiza who auditioned for the role of Irene singing an obscure rock song that Quark immediately liked. “It took him five years to complete the movie and it’s really worth the long wait dahil ang ganda lumabas ng pelikula. This is a tribute to the local rock music scene, lalo na yung rock venues like Mayrics and NU107 na wala na ngayon. I’m so proud to be part of this movie that also pays homage to various rock bands through the years.”
