MOTHER LILY MONTEVERDE knew she didn’t make a mistake when she chose the indie film “Ligo na U, Lapit na Mehttp://www.showbiz-portal.com/2011/07/ligo-na-u-lapit-na-me-movie-review.html” to be distributed by her Regal Entertainment. When the film had its celebrity premiere night at Gateway last Sunday, many stars came to support it, along with no less than Nora Aunor who praised the film lavishly.
The acclaimed adaptation of the novel written by Eros Atalia was produced by the ubiquitous Noel Ferrer who also manages its lead actor, Edgar Allan Guzman. Edgar won best actor in the Cinemalaya Awards Night for his performance in the film as a young college student who gets involved with a liberated woman, Mercedes Cabral. He eventually falls in love, but the problem is he can’t express his feelings for her since she emphasized from the start that there should be no commitment or emotional involvement between them.
“I really enjoyed ‘Ligo na U’ when I saw it sa Cinemalaya,” says Mother Lily. “It’s just the directorial debut of Erick Salud but he did it like a real professional. I’m sure young people will be able to relate with the way unconventional story is presented in a very modern manner with so many funny scenes. Salud also knows how to get the best from his actors, not only in the daring love scenes but even from the comediennes in the movie like Beverly Salviejo, Evelyn Vargas and Malou Crisologo who played various kinds of teachers in the movie. Another hilarious scenes involves Shalala as a pimp who makes fun of the Kapuso, Kapatid and Kapamilya networks in a scene-stealing sequence.”
